James Cordon has today stated that he would like to be offered the regular role of companion on the show, but would you want to see it?
Personally I am not a fan of his, but I quite like Craig. That said though, I wouldn't like to see him in every episode. I think it would be too much and would run the risk of Doctor Who being to comedic and silly. He never really seems to know when to reign in in. What do you think?

I love James Corden and I love Craig but I wouldn't like to see him as a regular, like you said I'm scared he would make it too comedic and Doctor Who isn't a comedy show. I understand that the show can be funny sometimes but not for every single episode and I just think Craig has done his time in the show, The Lodger and this next one he's in, there's only so long he can keep his character going

All I will say in mitigation is that these arguments were exactly the same ones that I used when I heard that Catherine Tate and (to a lesser extent Billie Piper) were going to be involved in the show. I have no great problem with James C. - he is actually quite agreeable in Gavin and Stacey. I think, though, there are better potential candidates for Doctor Who companion (the girl who played Luna Lovegood being my chosen favourite) Really interesting OP though - shows the pull that the show still has...

Just a tad I do know what you mean - and JC is really one of those Marmite people. I don't think it would work personally as I think he has too 'big' a personality to just be an 'also starring'

He seems to be very much about silly humour and I think they would have to tailor to that in the show, which would not be the type of thing I personally want to see.

I wouldnt be keen on it tbh. As a one (or two) off character he is fine, but I wouldnt want him around more than that. Its not just JC either. I wouldnt want Craig around that much

I agree with the concensus - there's nothing wrong with the character, but he's really not companion material.

It'd be nice to see him be a "filler" companion (à la Adam or even Mickey), but nothing really further than that. Although it's awesome he's coming back for this series!

Of all the people on this planet there are approximately six billion I would rather see as a companion than James Cordon. And that's before we move onto other species of ape, monkey and some of the more intelligent lemurs.
