I love sci fi - but I also love a good political drama. House of Cards, State of Play, Yes Minister (i know its a comedy but it had moments..) But a-top the tree in terms of greatest TV of all time I would heartily recommend The West Wing. Even though it is a little dated in some events it is still amazing. An ensemble cast that is just shudderingly brilliant. Plot lines that make you laugh and cry in the same scene and writing that makes you draw breath its so good. Please, if you don't listen to any of my other inane ramblings, and you haven't already, check out the West Wing. I am currently re-watching season 2 and it is blowing me away with its freshness (and I've watched all seven seasons straight through 3 times).
If you need any more persuading, its David Tennant's favourite show.

I tried more than once, but just couldnt get into this show at all. I know lots of people who absolutely raved about it, but I just couldnt see the fuss. Im not big on political stuff on the whole anyways, so I guess it was never going to be a winner

Now and then, every once in a very long while, every day in a million days, when the wind stands fair and The Doctor comes to call, everybody lives.

I am an absolute addict - but I do love the political side of things so I think it panders to that a little bit.
