Was it really the wisest move, however nice Avery seemed, to let a group of thieving, robbing, murdering thugs loose with a heavily weaponed space ship? Perhaps this is a blooper rather than something threadworthy of its own, but it just seems like another random out of character thing for the Doctor to do

Haha I didnt even think of that! But you're right, its another thing to add to the out of characteryness of the Doctor over the last few weeks. It also lends to the possibility of seeing them again in a later episode

I think he let them go because of the young boy. Regardless of what the pirates did, he wouldnt see the boy suffer or be alone. And it also leaves the door open for their return

Sick child or not, this is definately another out of character response from the Doctor. Just because they weren't specifically his enemies, doesn't mean they weren't bad guys. Letting them fly off in a heavily armed space ship was narratively a very silly thing for the Doctor to do

Sabalom Glitz and the Nosferatu II, I'm just saying. But he had Mel to keep him in line. Mel wasn't good for much, but screaming and keeping people in line were her two big talents.

Maybe the Doctor is just letting them 'borrow' it. It's not like the TARDIS is actually his
