Ok, so we are a third of the way through the full series and over half way through the first half. What are your thoughts on this series so far? Is it living up to expectations or proving to be a dissapointment?

Blistering! This is a gem of a series. The first two stories were just epic. COTBS was a real old fashioned who and made a lovely contrast to the timey-wimey. The Gaiman Episode was probably the best single episode i've seen in a long time and now The Rebel Flesh has left things bubbling up nicely.

This season is a gorgeous mixture of traditional Who-ness and yet has a really fresh feeling to it. I am loving it.

I pretty much agree with all of this, with the exception of COTBS. I was quite pleased with it on first watch, but in hindsight, the more I think about it the less I seem to like it. Its the only one I havent watched since its broadcast week. Other than that though this series is VERY strong and I am enjoying it a lot

I've totally loved it so far. COTBS was good but the weakest of the 5 we have seen so far, but I think this series has had a much stronger opening that last year, and last year was awesome

I think what I like so much about the season is the light and shade. Yes COTBS wasn't anything daring and brand new - but it was a good solid episode which complemented the ones around it.

COTBS was like the lettuce in a Big Mac - no one would go out and actually buy a lettuce would they? But within the wider context, it works beautifully

Brilliantly put. I think this series has been very strong so far. I'm not a lover of Moffat or his overall ideas for the show but I cannot argue that this series has been brilliantly strong so far.

I've also been known to indulge in the buying of some salad products Tongue

I agree - COTBS was actually pretty good for a "weakest episode so far" and the whole series has really impressed me.

I buy lettuce too.  Not very often, though.

Loving this series, 1&2 were the best, really really enjoyed 3 and 4, but personally episode 5 was a bit of a downer for me. But yeah really really good series so far!  Smiley

I'm over the moon with series 6 so far. It has been consistently great. Even the episodes I havent liked so much have still be brilliant. I loved Series 5, which I think is the only series we can fairly compare this series to, but when you think of episodes like The Beast Below and VOTD which we had seen this time last year, this series is much better imo

I'm finding it a bit of a rollercoaster. When it's good, it's amazing. When it's bad, it's really bad.

Pretty much with Joshua on this one - eps 1 & 2 had sone nice things in them (mainly Mark Sheppard) but too full of timey wimey & on rewatch my opinion dropped greatly.

Ep 3 was average at best.

The Doctor's Wife had me over the moon, loved every second of it as I've gushed many times on here.

This week....well, the locations were really nice.

I'm tired of the ramming down our throat shots every week of The Doctor looking at the is she/isn't she screen as if we're too stupid to remember, tired of the arc of each series being (so it seems anyway) all about the companion and tired of timey wimey.

I'm not a full blown hater though - I still think Matt is doing a brilliant job, Karen has done really well this year, and the music has been top notch.
I just think - at the moment - that the show has become a victim of Moffat believing his own hype a little bit.

I thought the first two were incredible.  CotBS was like a sucker punch to the gut.  I loved "The Doctor's Wife", it's probably one of my favorite Who episodes ever.  I was hoping the season clunker was behind us, but I found last night's episode was almost as awful as CotBS.  So I'm definitely not looking forward to next week.  I am looking forward to episode 7 though.  Hopefully that will get the series back on track for me.

I thought this season might surpass season 5 as my favorite, but now I'm not so optimistic.

I'm loving it so far. Episode 3 was great, but probably my least favourite. I have high hopes for the last two episodes. I'm going to hate the mid series split

Yea me too! I suppose how bad it is will come down to how epic the cliffhanger is. We've never ended on a cliffhanger before. I think the closest we have been was in POTD with Carmen's 'He will knock 4 times' speech

Yea I am loving it too. I think Ex is right. The gap will hinge on how good (or bad) the cliffhanger turns out to be

For sure. I have this feeling it's going to cut off just as we think we are going to find something out or just as a twist kicks in (I'm purely basing this on what they did with Sherlock - could be well off the mark though!) and I have a feeling I will be yelling at the TV in frustration Tongue

Well Moff promised we would find out who River is in ep7, and then said it wouldnt be revealed until ep8, so the cliffhanger might be something like...

'It's time I tell you who I really am, Doctor. I'm....'

Followed by Eastenders style doof doofers Tongue
