I don’t know if any of you have been speculating about the ending of the Doctor’s Ganger but to me it seems fairly obvious what might have happened. We learned on the episode silence in the library that a living conscience can be stored inside a sonic screwdriver just like River was. So couldn’t the same have happened to the Doctor’s ganger and the other ganger that was with him? He did say “there may be a way back from this” right before they melted. Also the Doctor gave his Sonic Screwdriver to the ganger so that he could disintegrate the beast. I would like to know how the hell you explain him having one to point at Amy two minutes later on the Tardis. I’m just saying.... Tell me what you guys think.

Well its pretty much been agreed on that with the Doctor having the sonic in his pocket, then being cloned, it would make sense that the sonic was cloned too like his clothes etc.

As for the consiousness, its definately a good idea, but as with River, all it could do would be stored. Perhaps he will upload it to the library or something. I don't think it will come into play in this particular story though

Hmmmm...the sonic thing has me curious now. Could the flesh really clone a sonic?

And if it could and they do both have one, why did they keep tossing one back and forth to each other?

I think it probably did. It got every other detail down, no reason why it couldnt clone the sonic as well. Or perhaps the Doctor had two. They were throwing them about a fair bit so it would be easy to get confused about which one had which

I think the sonic was just cloned. Simple as that. I know its easy to quibble the little details but I don't think they will even bother going back into it to explain. I could be massively wrong, but its just my thoughts on it

I've just been thinking on this some more because I had a rewatch and it struck me that that Sonic is pretty much gone now, regardless. If it was made of Flesh, then it will have gone to mush anyways, but whether it was real or not, it was emphasized several times that the island had minutes until it exploded, so chances are it was destroyed anyway

But what's the point of passing it to each other at all? I mean, if they've both got one, they don't need the other guy's. I personally find it easier to believe that there was one sonic screwdriver through the episode that the Doctor and the Flesh Doctor kept passing back and forth. Then when the Doctor leaves his Flesh clone the screwdriver to stop Flesh Jennifer, he simply gets a new one from the TARDIS. We already know that's where it comes from - or at least, where this model came from.

The only bump I see in my own theory is that just after the one Doctor found the real Jennifer with it, we see the other version use it in the Flesh tank room.

Probably no worth discussing to death, though... I don't think either theory has enough going for it to make anyone entirely sure.

I have two theories to explain the sonic;

1. The Sonic was produced for the Doctor by the TARDIS (at the end of TEH "Thanks Dear") perhaps the sonic has an organic/sentient element to it hitherto unknown much like the TARDIS (my preferred choice)

2. Perhaps the sonic was cloned in the same way that the shoes were cloned?

Sadly i think you might be right!  Mind, wouldn't it be awful if the sonic was a bit sentient - they kill it nearly as much as Rory!

On rewatching, I'd say it definitely doesn't make any obvious sense.  When pretend-ganger Doctor goes off to look for Rory and Jen, pretend-real Doctor tosses him the sonic.  Shortly afterwards, pretend-real Doctor has the sonic.  In the scene outside the Tardis, real Doctor tosses ganger Doctor the sonic, which he uses to melt Jen.  Meanwhile, in the Tardis, real Doctor takes out the sonic to melt ganger Amy.

Either something's going on I can't quite figure, or there are some serious continuity issues.
