Zoe Heriot was a brilliant young scientist from the 21st Century who accompanied the Second Doctor and Jamie McCrimmon in their travels aboard the Doctor's TARDIS.

Zoe was an astrometricist, first class, and astrophysicist on board Space Station W3, known as The Wheel, when she met the Doctor and Jamie. Zoe had a photographic memory, and was described by her colleagues as 'the librarian'. She was very bad at history, however. Her training left her emotionally underdeveloped, having been taught only the value of logic. When she met the Doctor, Zoe was presented with a case study in how illogical, intuitive, actions and instinct could be successful. From their first meeting on Space Station W3, Zoe often questioned the Doctor.

As Zoe became more aware that there was more to knowledge than mere facts, she decided to hide in the TARDIS. She realised that she had learnt as much as she could on the Wheel, where her abilities and role were compartmentalised and defined. Zoe had become ready to discover the universe, and her place in it. Before he felt ready to have her brave the terrors of the universe, however, the Doctor showed her a thought projection of his most recent encounter with the Daleks.

Despite knowing very little about the Doctor, she remained a loyal companion. She described him as old, clever and kind. Despite her apparent bravery, she was quick to call for assistance if she needed it.

The above is an outline of the companion for those who are not familiar with Zoe because we are watching out of order, but this thread may also be used as a general discussion thread for the character.

How old is she meant to be? I don't dislike her, but so far she seems a little uppety and snobby. Also a bit whingy. Love the hairpiece though. And she rocks a catsuit!

Zoe's catsuit.... mmmmmmmmmmm....

Yes, she's meant to be a bit of a brat.  Victoria, who came immediately before, was a sweet thing who Jamie absolutely adored.  His relationship with Zoe is more like squabbling siblings.  I think she's fairly young, certainly still in her teens.  She's supposed to have been a fast-tracked prodigy, so she could have had a position on the Wheel by her mid-teens.

I like her. She knows her stuff and isn't afraid to show it off. It makes a change I think to have a woman being the one who has the brains because as great as some of the companions were back in the day, they made some of the women pretty thick at times

I don't mind Zoe but her 'know it all' attitude can be a bit much sometimes. I think though that given her genius and her age, she acts exactly how most kids in her situation would act.

I liked Zoe on the whole (the screaming I could live without, or at least do with less of - that's not unique to her though). She's smart & feisty, more than holding her own against the other leads - a good companion  Smiley

I've always been on the fence with Zoe, though she is a lot more likeable in this than in some of the other stories. She is at her worst in The Invasion if you ask me

I like her. She's always so full of herself it makes me laugh. I understand why though. If I had her brain I'd be a showoff too Tongue
