When Rory was all badass at the beginning of the episode, I just didn't really buy it. I don't know if it was the acting or the writing but it just seemed really forced. Don't get me wrong, I believed that thats what a person in that position would do, but I just think it didn't feel right

Really? I thought he was brilliant. I thought Arthur acted it really well and I thought it was written really well too. I'm always biased towards Rory, but still I genuinly thought it was great

I agree with the OP. I don't think it was down to the acting but more that it was a bit too much of a stretch for Rory's character

He is also vain, ego-centric and quite mad

I find myself in the unusual position of disagreeing with both Exterminate and TDD.
I thought Rory was amazing in this precisely because I don't think he was kick-ass. His voice when he was talking to the Cybermen had just a little wobble - I had the feeling that what we were seeing was someone who was scared witless trying to sound kick-ass. Those scenes where he was with Amy and Melody before he went out to battle were genuinely moving. This season has been a triumph for Arthur and his character - and this, for me, was the icing on the cake

I agree he played it like a man who was terrified but willing to do anything to find his wife, which was exactly the note he wanted to hit. And when he brought that baby to Amy...?

I agree - not been a fan of his this season, although in many ways he's behaved like a "classic" companion - but in this ep he was pretty awesome, especially the lump in the throat bit with Amy & Melody.
Plus, rocking a sword/gun combo? BAD. ASS.

Sorry mods, I accidentally reported a post here as spam I thought Rory was great in this episode too, apart from when he faced off with the Cybermen... maybe it was too OOC or poorly acted, I don't know, but I didn't think that was well done

I haven't had a report of spam so I wouldn't worry about it As for Rory - I thought he was great in this. Still totally himself in much of it, but putting those 2000 years worth of memories to good use when he needed them. More of this Rory please

It might be worth pointing out how he was "going to be cool" when he got Melody and Amy back, but then started crying. Pointing, IMO, to his being totally bad ass, even though he was in a vulnerable state. Rory was his best in this episode.
