I really enjoyed episode one, but it felt a bit random considering a whole episode was spent before we actually got to the story. It was good though because these three characters are all new to me and it spent the whole time focused on them so by the time we got into the proper story I felt like I knew them a bit better.
Also, the voice in the TARDIS that had taken control reminded me very much of the Silence Will Fall business from the back end of series 5. Am I the only one who thought that? I don't know if perhaps the new series has made a subtle nod to it or if there is no connection at all, but I did like how similar it felt

My Series 6 Ratings (so far): TIA 10/10 | DOTM 10/10 | COTBS 8/10 | TDW 10/10 | TRF 9/10 | TAP 10/10 | AGMGTW 10/10 | LKH 8/10 | NT 4/10 | TGWW 10/10

I could be getting this mixed up with one of the other stories, but I think episode one of this series was a free space left over when they cut The Dominators and so they had to quickly write somthing to tack on to the front end of this serial, which is why it is so basic with the limited sets and story. As I said though, I might be getting this mixed up with a different story

Yes, that was the one. We got this one instead of a sixth episode of The Dominators, so it's good with me

Shame they didn't cut another couple of episodes off of that one. Probably one of my least favourite stories from the whole of the 60's

Oh I wondered what this was all about. It fit in well enough but it also sort of stood out compared to the rest of it. Not bad considering it was a rush job. I definately see what TC means about the connection to the voice in the TARDIS at the end of series 5. Maybe this is how far it spans back

Wasn't that meant to be The Master though? Its never explicitly stated or explained, that's just what I always assumed. Its an awesome connection though

Yes, it's the Master/computer speaking. He actually appears in the credits for the episode.

Of course, it was never actually established who the powers were that the Master was serving. I believe there's a theory they were the Gods of Ragnarok (from The Greatest Show in the Galaxy) but maybe the Land of Fiction actually was one of the Silents' schemes.
