He is also vain, ego-centric and quite mad

The JNT era was a very turbulent time for us Who fans! In many ways it was a golden era spanning four very different but very brilliant actors who each brought a hugely distinctive presence to the role of the Doctor. One of the things I think JNT must take some of the blame for is the way in which the companions were treated. When he got it right (Tegan, Peri and Ace spring to mind for honourable mentions) then it seemed more by luck than judgment. But there were a whole host of potentially very interesting companions who were just ignored, seemingly almost as soon as they were cast!

Nyssa is one such character. I loved the relationship she had with the Doctor. Her approach proved that a female character could be both gentle yet strong simultaneously. She was intelligent but innocent - she brought out the scientist side of the Doctor and I just wish they had given her some stories alone with the Doctor. As Nyki (as always) rightly points out, when she was given a fair crack of the whip, she really shone.
