It's so hard sometimes to look at these ratings and not think 'wow' compared to today's ratings, but I suppose in context this would probably be about the same, if not worse than todays performance. It's a shame we can't see what the share was.

How many channels were there in 1965? Was it just BBC1 and ITV?

BBC2 started that year, but this was right at the beginning of 1965, so there probably would have been just the two.

So 10-12 million out of what? About 40 million with a TV? I don't suppose that's too bad for the time.

Well I don't know figures for those types of things, but I think that in 1965 the amount of homes with a TV in the UK would probably have been lower than that. I had a look online and found an article which said less than half the households in the UK had a TV in 1961, but most had one by 1969, so that's quite a growth and this was aired in the middle. Coronation Street on December 2nd 1964 had its largest audience of the 60s with 21.36m which had an 80% share, which would mean the total audience would have been about 25-27m (off the top of my head), so a DW audience a few weeks later of 10-12 million would have a share of about 40-45%, (again, this is a rough calculation in my head), which is roughly in line with what it averages at today.

I realise that was probably all very boring, but still... Cheesy

Well these ratings must have been pretty impressive because wasn't it getting about 2-3million when they finally cancelled it? That's quite a drop
