Surely special mention has to go to the abomination of a body that he was trying to make. I'm still not sure if it was meant to look intentionally awful or if they just thought it was a good design to go with. Something tells me the production people didn't take it all too seriously and it always makes me laugh

Well, the Doctor and Sarah Jane make fun of it too much to think it wasn't intentional. As I said in another thread, Solon is basically incompetent, in spite of his obvious genius, which gives him an oddly endearing quality.

I think it was intended to be a little tongue in cheek, if not before then definately after the costume was made. It's definately not meant to be taken too seriously I don't think

I always thought this was one of the few instances where they deliberately made the monster look a bit naff and silly. As someone else said, they poke fun at it a fair bit in the script which invites the audience to do the same. Something they wouldn't do I don't think, if they wanted us to take it more seriously

They should have taken the more tongue in cheek approach with a few other monsters and villains, because some of them are very hard to take seriously. At least this one could have been passed off as bad because it was meant to be cobbled together rather than an actual alien. Still better than last weeks monster

As someone else said, they take the mickey of it enough in the script so I can't imagine it was meant to be taken too seriously, but in a way that makes me like it that much more. DW is always better when it doesn't take itself too seriously
