I gave this a four, but I considered a five. There were a few things I found off, and I guessed straight away where Amy and Rory were, but I found it generally effective and well done. And I didn't see any problem about the father-son relationship - yes, he's discovered his son's an alien, but he's had eight years adoring him, I'd expect his reaction to be to want to save him.

Good - Really enjoyed the monsters in this, and the setting of the doll house. Matt Smith was GREAT as usual, and some good Rory lines The council flat setting was good, visually
Bad - Recycled plot from Fear Her, with a resolution pretty much identical to Empty Child (and the dolls creepy voices reminded me of that, too.) For a show based on an emotional resolution, this fell flat. The father was having trouble with his rent, and I feel this had a big part on the childs fears. Yet there is no resolution to this. Gatiss used the setting for its look, rather than looking at the social side to it. So the tennants are left with the terrible, potentially dangerous landlord. I would have liked some comeuppance for him which would lead to the position of the family and the old women being better by the end of the story. Got really fed up of shots of the child looking round his room scared. We got the point after one of these shots, we didn't need like 5.

Two marks out of five from me. I found myself getting really bored very early on and the creepy, eerie story I was hoping for just wasn't there. It's a shame, but its also the only one of this series that I am not too keen on so one miss isn't too bad

I went with a three, but mainly because I felt bad giving it a two. I didn't hate the episode but I think that it could have been so much better. Instead of being scary or creepy, too much time was spent standing around and doing nothing, lowering the atmosphere of the episode. I didn't really rate the acting of the guy playing the dad either, so I found that took me out of the episode a fair bit as well.

I know a lot of people weren't so keen on this one, but I am still surprised it has rated as low as it has. Perhaps it is a grower and will seem better on rewatches

It seems to have divided people more than most. It's not often a story gets several 5s and several 1s.

I have to say, after doing that rewatch I much preferred it and would probably raise it from a one to a three now

Yea me too. I wouldn't give it any more points, but it is definately more deserving of the three I gave it. Still the worst of the season though and I still think Gatiss should bugger off

I've rewatched it now (wasn't able to join the official rewatch) and I'd stick with my four. I have to say I can't really understand the hatred this one's getting, but I suppose we all have different tastes.

I couldn't join in with this weeks official rewatch because of work, but I did one on my own and I have to say that although I still ain't keen, I do like it a bit more than I first did. Perhaps it will keep getting better each time I watch.

It was slightly weak as a whole, but I tend to look at details, and they influence my opinion more than the whole. So, I went with a 4 because:
With the landlord, I was like, um, what? And then with the old lady, I was like, um, what? The whole "George is an alien" twist, I almost saw coming, which is fine, but there was hardly ad:any explanation, which bothered me a little.
I am not a big fan of Amy.But I LOVED her in this. And when Amy and Rory got seperated from the Doctor, I literally yelled at the screen, "Yes! Old Who style!" I thought the doll house was amazing, even though it was a bit of an old hat plot point, which I figured out immediately. Science fiction isn't about new stuff, it is about telling old stuff from a great new perspective, or at least attempting to. Plus, Matt was great, and so was a lot of the dialogue.

I actually liked the fact that the Doctor waltzed off without sorting out anything other than what he set himself to sort. It's what he does - think of Satelite 5.

This gets a three from me. It was the first episode in a long while that felt to like it was geared specifically towards children as apposed to everyone, though we can't really complain because a lot of stories this year have been more adult in their approach. It wasn't a great story and some of it was badly written, but it could have been great and it was nowhere near the worst we have seen, so I think 3 is fair

I agree, I think that I don't dislike this episode as much as I possibly could because it really hits me as one children would enjoy, and enjoy being scared by it. So I appreciate that aspect of it. Still haven't rewatched it though

Finally got round to a sneaky re-watch of this episode. I have to say I enjoyed it a lot more second time around. I think because I was anticipating the leaps of logic, I could enjoy the story and the atmosphere. Gatiss did a very good job of creating a "Sapphire and Steel" type of vibe that I think very much suits the show. It still remains a three - but probably goes to 3 1/2

I do think the initial objections/issues I had with the episode still remain but for me (and I have found this with a lot of Season 6) it does benefit from a bit of distance and sits nicely. I don't think it is any coincidence that this story was shunted around the season a bit though - definitely still my least favourite story of the season

Finally watched this again since it first aired and it gets a 2/5.
Not one I'm in any hurry to rewatch again, but not as illogical as COTBS which I think is worse.
