The first episode I've rewatched the same night the episode aired since The Doctor's Wife.

Easily a 5/5. Incredible. Thrilled to see it has got no less so far!

Now *that* is how you do a good standalone episode!   Afro  Karen Gillan was absolutely amazing.  Definitely a 5/5.  I was worried because it was supposed to be a Doctor lite episode, but it really didn't feel like it.

Just had a little sneaky re-watch and (if possible) was even better than at first watching. In spite of my last post, Karen Gillen and Arthur Darvill were simply amazing and the chemistry between them is really shining through. It has (IMHO) taken Moff and the other writers nearly two full seasons to write for Amy properly but blimey it was worth the wait.

There was something genuinely filmic about the whole episode. As I watched it again, I was struck by how "Sci-Fi" it felt. The sets and scenery really complimented the feel of the episode without ever being showy or OTT. And Murray Gold's music was simply sublime. Again, IMHO worthy of a film score and surely worthy of some award/recognition by BAFTA?

This whole episode was a textbook example of how to do really good science fiction.

I gave it a 3.
It wasn't rotten, but I found myself clockwatching the whole time & feeling pretty bored.

However, the acting by Karen & Arthur was damn good. I wouldn't take that from them.

On a side note, the constant re-use of sound effects is starting to put me right off. (this week: the teleporting sound for the robots)

Five from me. I was really impressed with the episode and it was a real turnaround from last week which I really wasn't impressed with. Considering the episode only really had three people in it for the whole time, they carried the story really well, particularly Karen Gillan, who was on fine form

That episode was absolutely amazing. When I saw the teasers I thought it was going to be good, but never thought it would be that good. One of the best of the season so far

Sorry TFD but I am joining the 5 brigade too. I thought this story was wonderful and probably one of the strongest since Moffat took over.

Everyone all over the internet seems to be treating this like the Second Coming of Doctor Who or something. It was a good strong episode, but for me there have been loads that are better, even if perhaps not this series. I gave it a four because I couldn't give it 3.5

Woot!
I have backup now!
 Afro

The love for this ep does seem a bit OTT though, I'm not sure why.
I'm not gonna begrudge anyone how much they like or dislike an ep, but I just don't see what the big deal is.

Thing is we probably all have eps where we see everyone else praising them & we're sitting there thinking 'huh?!' - I know I do. Just the nature of having different tastes I guess  Smiley

I often think that - given the matrix of different writers, different viewer tastes, different expectations and the personal like/dislike for the characters that it is actually a miracle that anyone ever agrees on an episode! I'm something of a Who-Muppet, because I love the format and the central premise so much I can generally forgive most things (let us not speak of The Dominators) but I know there are others who are very specific in their requirements. I honestly think that it is amazing that a consensus can ever emerge.

And I actually get where TFD is coming from - because I think if you don't buy into Moff's very distinct way of doing things then it must make a good part of season 6 pretty inaccessible.

That's one of the best things about this forum though - unlike other places, we're not attacking each other for a difference of opinion  Afro

And I think you may have hit the nail on the head Chris.

I might, after a rewatch, have given this ep a 5, but for now it's a 4. Even as it is though, it is really close to beating out TDW. Which is scary.

And yes, VA, the perfect way to do science fiction.
