Possibly the worst in the history of the show?

It really is silly, especially given that they barely even mention it in the next story. I wonder if perhaps something was cut, or something was intended to be written to explain it but for whatever reason they just never did?

I've already commented on this under The Romans.  Yes, I can only assume they were intending to make more of it.  Back then, each episode was made during the week before it was broadcast, so if they changed their minds, there was no chance to correct it.

There is a brief mention in The Romans about it not being the right way up, but other than that there is no mention. I'd agree with others that something probably got cut back and so they didn't have time to explore it, which is a shame really

I'm sure I read somewhere recently that the idea that they had been in Rome for at least a month in the next story was a last minute edition and so because they wanted that as part of the story, they didn't continue with the cliffhanger from the last story and the events directly after it. I might be wrong though

I guess we will just have to chalk it up to being one of those adventures we only get to hear about but never see

Was it really that quickly? I know they were put out soon after making, but I was sure there was about 2-4 weeks between making and transmission

Perhaps they covered it in one of the comics or books or audios or whatever. If there is an open cliffhanger and then a month before we see them all again, then that to me would seem like a good story opportunity or something

Oh, I think it's been dealt with, but that doesn't alter the fact that at the time it was a plot-hole.
