Perhaps I missed something in the dialogue, but I have no idea what they were all about, why there were there or what exactly their point was. Can anyone explain or was it actually not really answered?

I think they just happened to be there because of the war criminal element, though they did seem to know a lot about the Silence and whatnot so I'm not too sure. Admittedly, I was left a bit confused by this element too. I'd imagine we will be seeing them again though

Well I'm glad I wasn't the only one a bit baffled by it all

It did seem rather an elaborate way of going about it, although I got what they were doing - extracting war criminals at a point where it wouldn't change history and punishing them.

One thing I did wonder about was why a robot would have antibodies inside.  OK, it deals with intruders, but I wouldn't think they'd get any intruders they hadn't brought there themselves.

It was a MacGuffin, and a poor one at that.
The only point to them being there was to show Mels that she was River Song.

I'm going to have a little rewatch sometime today and listen out extra hard, because as TFD says, other than to show Mels who River is, I can't work out why they were really there at all

The whole thing seemed really pointless to me so I am sort of hoping that we will be seeing them again in a later episode to flesh their story out a bit because otherwise their appearance here just seems really pointless with the exception of the last few minutes

This is the one thing in the story that totally lost me. Even now I still have no idea why they were there

And what was the deal with those 'Octopus Robots' killing people for no reason?

I'm glad I'm not the only person completely at a loss to their purpose.

And the Octopobots looked ridiculous, although they gave me an oddly reminiscent feeling of Classic Who, even though I've only seen 2 episodes of Classic Huh?

The little people reminded me of a terrible German sci-fi comedy thing called 'Traumschiff Surprise'

Agree with you there Joshua, they looked ridiculous and reminded me some something Classic Who, and yeah, what was the point in them?!  Undecided
