So what are everyones thoughts on these Cybermen. I was going to call them 'classic' Cybermen but I figure they probably changed loads over the years because they don't look anything like the one from the museum in that Ninth Doctor story.

I liked the Cybermen here a lot. They looked like they were made in someones kitchen but they seemed more menacing to me than the big stompy ones we see these days. I love those too, though. They reminded me a lot of those men from the one where Susan leaves. How vague is that? You know the ones I mean Tongue

I wasn't massively keen on their voices, which incidently seemed to change mid way through the story, because sometimes they were a little hard to understand, but I liked that they spoke more and I liked that they didn't say 'delete' because that always seemed a little lame. I'm guessing that is a later addon to rival Exterminate or something.

I don't have a lot to compare to. It's literally these and the new ones. I like both and I think both have their positives and negatives, but I am surprised by just how much I liked these. Even if they did look a bit silly

See, I like these, but I prefer the big stompy ones of now. They just seem like a brilliant evolvement of the species and I think they look so brilliant and threatening. Especially now the big 'C' on their chests is gone. The only thing I would say is that they look more like plastic than metal. And I also hate all this 'delete' business.

The ones we have seen in this story are great and sort of eerie, but I just don't get that feeling of threat because they look like they were made using tin foil and sticky back plastic, which is probably actually exactly what they were made from.

The modern day Cybermen come in for a lot of stick, but realistically I think they had to be redesigned for the new audience and for the most part I think it worked. I don't really like all the parallel Cybus stuff, but I think they look cool. Though their heads seem a bit small. Likewise though, what we see in the classic series is very much of it's time and so can't really be fairly judged together. I love the Cybermen in all forms though so perhaps I am biased

Erm... I have to admit when I first saw the 'old' cybermen I had to laugh... Lots. Mainly because I've only really known the new ones, but I have to say that those old ones really wouldn't work for the newer/younger audience, whereas I think these new ones are just brilliant and work so well, and you get more of a feel for what cybermen are through those then you did the classic ones.

I much prefer these to the new series ones.

Although I like the way the new ones look, there are a lot of other things about them that just grate with me. The 'stompyness' is presumably meant to seem militaristic and threatening, but I've always just found it irritating. The voices sound far too similar to the Daleks, and the "Delete" catchphrase is just pathetic.

I love the voices of the Cybermen in this story, they sound like nothing else in the series and have a real kind of quiet menace to them. The costumes are obviously very cheaply made and often look it, but really give the impression of people who were once human-like but have been converted bit-by-bit into machines, which I think is a much more interesting concept than just removing the brain and putting it straight into a ready-built body.

The classic Cybermen changed quite a bit over the years.  In particular, their voices in The Tenth Planet were nothing like this - they were very up and down and sounded a bit silly.  I've no great objection to the NuWho Cybermen, but like Dame Roger, I prefer them less stompy.  I think probably the late classic design is my favourite.

I've heard a lot of people say that the ones from the later classic era were great so I am looking forward to seeing them when we get to it

Actually I really like the Cybermen from The Tenth Planet. They are not martial, bent on destruction and power. They are simply completely logical. They seem genuinely puzzled by people's resistance to conditioning and desire to save the lives of others. Although the high voices are kind of funny this fits in in a way.
