I was just in the thread to vote for the best story of the season so far and it struck me that perhaps Series 6 hasn't been as strong as I thought. Up to this point I havent really been thinking about the series as a whole, but more just taking each episode as they come, but seeing them all listed out in front of me didn't really fill me with much excitement. Like if I was trying to sit and choose one to rewatch, I don't think I would be particularly arsed about any of them at the moment. Just to see what I saw, we have:

The Impossible Astronaut/Day Of The Moon
Curse Of The Black Spot
The Doctor's Wife
The Rebel Flesh/The Almost People
A Good Man Goes To War
Let's Kill Hitler
Night Terrors

Now, I like most of the stories listed above, but the more I think on it, I don't love any of them. I could go to any of my boxsets and randomly pick a season, then pick several stories that I would happily watch over and over, but right now I am not feeling that about series 6 and I only just sort of realised. It could be down to a couple of things I suppose. For series 1-4 for example, I used to watch just the opener on TV and then stay away from spoilers until the DVD came out and watch them all in one go. With Series 5, I watched it each week, but didn't do any rewatches until I got the DVD (Except for TEH which I couldnt stop watching over and over), but now with Series 6 I have watched them as they air, then done rewatches on my own as well as with the other forum people and so perhaps I have overdone it and worn them out already. On the other hand it could be that the stories are all ok, but as a season they don't fit together well and so I am not so keen on the overall series.

Whatever the reason, for some reason I am just not feeling as though I like series 6 as much as I thought that I did, and I am only now realising it. Perhaps what I need to do is wait for the DVD and do a marathon and see how it all fits together in one go, because at the moment it all seems quite fragmented. As I said, I am liking the stories, I am just not really loving any of them. Is anyone else feeling perhaps a little let down by this series?

For me this season has been hit or miss, either really awesome or I can't stomach a re-watch.

The Impossible Astronaut/Day Of The Moon   - Loved both episodes
Curse Of The Black Spot                            - Easily the worst Matt Smith episode
The Doctor's Wife                                     - Loved it
The Rebel Flesh/The Almost People              - Hated part 1, part 2 was only slightly better
A Good Man Goes To War                           - Loved it
Let's Kill Hitler                                          - Loved it
Night Terrors                                           - Hated it

So a real roller coaster ride.  I found season 5 to be much more consistent; I've re-watched all of them, some many more times than others, but there wasn't one episode I truly hated.

I sort of agree and disagree. While I am mostly enjoying the episodes, I am not really enjoying the overall series, if that makes sense. Just that as a whole, it feels very disjointed and while there are lots of things in there that actually connect the stories, they don't really feel as though they all belong together. That probably made little to no sense, but it sounds right in my head. Series one for example, was ten random adventures that were very, very loosely connected, but they all flowed well and fit the overall season, but series 6, which is actually meant to be connected one after the other (more or less) doesn't have that feeling of unity.

That's the best I can do at trying to explain it.

It made perfect sense, PP, and I think I'd say much the same.  Good to great stories (unlike some people here, I've enjoyed even the weaker stories well enough) but there seems something lacking as a series.

While for me I don't think it has been as good as Series 5, I still think it has been pretty great. I suppose the entire view of the series could change with the coming episodes though so you never know how you all will feel at the end of it all

I would agree that the series feels a bit fragmented, which probably wasn't helped by splitting it, but on the whole I am enjoying most of the episodes. I do however think that it hasn't been as strong as the last series. I think it might perhaps be time for some new companions and a less river oriented arc, if we are to be stuck with the arcs

I have to agree, the series does feel a little disjointed, but on an individual basis, I have like most of the episodes a lot. As for whether the series as a whole has been good, I am really going to have to see the rest before I can say. The last episodes could really makes it shape up.

Yea that's the crucial thing. The finale especially could make or break the series. We could have an amazing season but a really rubbish finale that could make the whole thing feel like a let down, but on the flipside an amazing finale could make the whole season feel that much better

100% agree.
Really not enjoying this season at all. There are things I've enjoyed, things I've loved, but overall it's not a series I'll be buying or even rewatching anytime soon.

I'm actually really enjoying the season, for the most part. I love the opening two parter, The Doctor's Wife and The Girl Who Waited.

The only one I've really really disliked is Curse of the Black Spot. Night Terrors wasn't great, but I can appreciate that children would've really liked that one.

I am enjoying it much more than Series 5 - apart from The Pandorica Opens, I didn't particularly like any of the episodes on first watch. On rewatch most of it was a lot better, I worship TEH now, but I still detest the Silurian two parter (most boring episodes ever).

So for me, S6 is shaping up to be much better than S5. Not just for the episodes, but Amy has really improved and I've finally realised how fantastic Smith is.

These are thoughts as well.  I feel that it's time for a new dynamic.  I feel the show is good, but I don't know that these episodes in season 6 have the repeat viewing aspect that season 5 had. Alas.

I didn't really connect with this series. One or two episodes I loved, but the majority of it, I just felt like I was halfheartedly watching it

Sad
