What was that all about? Why did Meglos need someone from Earth, as opposed to any old humanoid? Why not give him a name or personality, as we're clearly supposed to be rooting for him (pun intended) in his struggles with Meglos? Why is he a total stereotype? What does he think of what's happening to him? He seems to be contemporary, but he doesn't query the planets, aliens and spaceships.

As with a lot of things in this story, this was just something else that doesn't really add up. It's not even something I paid much mind to when I was watching, but thinking on it now isn't really bringing any answers to mind. Pretty much a useless character I suppose to help move the story along.
