Not sure this should be here or in merchandising (feel free to move if you think it belongs over there) but I was wondering if there was any Classic DVDs that you have bought which have really turned you around on a story. I write this having been bought Time & The Rani a story that is burned in my memory as being feeble and not worthy of a regen episode. However, I got the DVD and was really turned round on it. The story and the idea is mostly banal. However, there is a brilliant 'Making of...' on the Special Features and it showed a group of people working under enormous stress and time constraints but trying their hardest to produce a high quality show. It showed how Sly McCoy really was the last throw of the dice but was imbued with an inner belief that he could do the job (and boy was he proved right). It showed special effects teams working harder than I thought possible on some cutting edge effects and a Hollywood star forsaking the glamour to work in a quarry. I watched the story against that backdrop and I found a new, little treasure of a story.

I got Trial of a Timelord for Christmas last year which I hated when it was originally broadcast. Unfortunately I haven't been able to watch it all the way through. It made more sense as I am older and know the story now, but I'm really not a Colin Baker fan and I can not *stand* Bonnie Langford

One day I shall come back. Yes, I shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine.

Trial of the Timelords was a strange old season. I very much get the impression that the ending was a recycled Bob Holmes idea (i think he died or became too ill to work before Trial finished and he was due to write the ending but i think it fell to Eric Saward) But lurking within that season are three cracking little stories - I particularly recommend Terror of the Vervoids which is brilliant and I really think showcases Colin Baker's doctor as to how good he could have been).

I had this kind of experience with Delta And The Bannerman. Didn't have a particularly fond memory of it, but ended up really enjoying it on a second viewing. Okay so you have to put up with Bonnie Langford screaming at a green baby, but it has an excellent villain in Don Henderson, and is generally just a really fun story.

The Keys of Marinus. Really wasnt fussed on first watch, but I gave it another go whilst introducing a friend to it and I really enjoyed it a whole lot more.
The War Machines is another one that gets better the more you watch

Yea it really is. I liked it on first watch, but totally love it now. It gets better each time. Random exit for Dodo, but a great intro for Ben and Polly

This morning I have been helping a friend move and he handed me a lump of DVDs and told me he didnt have room for them so I should have them. Most of them were crap, but in the pile was Spearhead From Space and Arc of Infinity. Which is best and which should I watch first? I think they were in the pile by accident, but I aint giving them back

Oh my god Karen, you can't just ask someone why they're white!

I'd say Spearhead From Space was better, but they're both pretty good. Also, if you watch Spearhead From Space you can look out for the little references to it that were made in The Eleventh Hour!

The Keys of Marinus is one I always remembered as a classic, and I loved it when I saw it again. My only criticism is that I'd like to have seen more of some of the settings - it should have been a twelve-parter In general, I remember not being impressed with the stories with Romana #2 first time around, so I was delighted when I got the DVD of City of Death - a real classic, both for the story and for the brilliant Adams one-liners.

I just bought the Tomb of the Cybermen DVD... they were selling it in Morrisons for £3, saw it and I couldn't resist! Only thing is it has really really confused me! =O haha, I'll get there in the end! Proberly confised me as it's one of the first classic episodes I've seen!
