Its a shame this one rated lower. I think perhaps if they had announced that it was Caroline Johns last then perhaps it would have gained some extra interest. It held up well though for a story spread over 7 weeks.

How do you know they didn't? Or did she leave between series or something? I suppose that would explain the rubbish non exit.

Apropos of nothing, it is really interesting to compare these to the Nu Who ratings - which are remarkably similar to these (although these have no such thing as time-shifting or even videotaping).

I think it shows what an amazing job Barry Letts, Terry Dicks and Jon Pertwee did in pulling the show around in the following seasons to make it the ratings smash it became.

Although I would say it highlights the strength of NuWho rather than the classics. When this serial was on there was only competition from 2 other channels as apposed to the over 400 that Doctor Who competes with now.

Which just shows how well the new show is doing, regardless of how much the press would like us to think otherwise.

I would never have thought figures like that were anything less than excellent. Over here anything above a million for a show is considered a success and anything near or over 2 million is huge. They have an odd way of putting figures together here though which I don't fully understand.

The thing is, and I don't know if it has always been the same, but today at least it seems it doesn't matter what ratings the show gets, someone is going to say it's failing.
