This is the thread for discussion of the overnight ratings, the official ratings, audience share, AI, iPlayer hits and anything else to do with ratings for this episode.

The initial ratings, share and AI will be from the UK, though these may be expanded upon later to take into account figures from elsewhere in the world such as the US and Australia.

If you want to see how this episode rates in comparison to previous series, then you can find that information HERE (add link). Please feel free to discuss the ratings and share your thoughts on how well this episode is doing. For ratings relating to other episodes, please check the relevent threads.

If you need any help understanding how the ratings and AI is calculated, then feel free to ask and either a moderator or fellow member will advise you.

Nobody has posted the ratings so I have gone looking for them. This is what I found Smiley

Apparantly all the channels are basically really dissapointed with ratings this year. For the first time in perhaps ever (as far as I can see) nothing broke 10m in overnights. Doctor Who came third for the evening behind Eastenders (9.9m), Corrie (9.3m) and then Doctor Who (8.9m).

I expect time shifting will be really high this year.

Oh, share was 34.2% but I don't know if that's good or not Smiley

And the share was the highest of any show for the night. Again, someone else will have to make sense of that Smiley

Yea from what I have been reading the ratings for everything were much lower than expected this year. The press will no doubt run stories about how it is failing compared to last year, but in context the show still did really, really well.

As for the share TC, it means that of all the people who were watching TV while DW was on the air, 34% of them were watching Doctor Who and the other 66% were spread out amongst all the other channels. Share is often overlooked but usually more important than the actual ratings. A higher rating is only 'high' in comparison to how many people were actually watching TV at the time. The show could hit 1m, but if that's 90% of the audience then thats a lot better than getting 10m but only reaching 5%, for example.

Last years Special timeshifted over 2m, so it will be easily possible to hit 11m once officials are in

Not a bad figure considering it was pretty low accross the board. It's number one on iPlayer so I suppose that's a good sign. I think the AI is fair

I think it will time shift pretty well. It's not an excellent overnight but I think most people (around here at least) know better than to pay too much heed to the overnights these days.

The BBC was back to being ridiculous with it's reporting on the figures. Despite DW having a higher overall average that Downton Abbey, the BBC website decided to focus on the fact that Downton Abbey had a higher 5 minute peak that DW, which means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of ratings, but yet they dedicated an entire paragraph to how focusing on the 5 minute peaks would actually knock DW into 4th for the day instead of 3rd. This again wouldn't be so bad, but Downton Abbey isn't even a BBC show, so why they feel the need to play it up over Doctor Who is beyond me.

Yesterdays repeat picked up 1.1m viewers. The repeats usually get between 400-600k, so that's an excellent figure, but who knows how that will affect time-shift.

I think 84 is a pretty good AI. It always averages around that at Christmas so I wouldn't have expected much higher. Just for comparison...

The Christmas Invasion - 84
The Runaway Bride - 84
Voyage of the Damned - 85
The Next Doctor - 86
End of Time pt.1 - 87
A Christmas Carol - 83
TDTWATW - 84

As for the ratings, it's a shame it wasn't a bit higher, but given what other shows got on the night it's really impressive. It's also higher than the overnights for the first two specials and ACC I think.

According to one of the newspapers this week, Doctor Who topped its slot in every demographic except for the over 65's, who were mostly watching Family Fortunes. That too, is awesome.

Sometime over the next few days I will do the charts for this episode and then do the year end charts to see how the season, including the special, has performed, both on it's own and in comparison to earlier years Smiley

Final ratings are in. According to DWM editor Tom Spilsbury they are 10.77 million (not including iplayer)

1. Downton Abbey - 11.6 million
2. Eastenders - 11.33 million
3. DW (see above)

I thought it would have got a bit more, to be honest. DA timeshifted a fair amount.

I think it's a decent figure. Not amazing, but when a 'not amazing' figure still comes in the top three, it's nothing to be sniffed at.
