I had heard about the 'maggots' from this story long before I ever saw it. They sometimes get a bit of stick from fans but since I first saw him I always thought they were great. They look a bit dodgy at times but they do the trick and more importantly, for something so simple, they were totally memorable. It's all too easy to say 'X' should return, but I honestly think there is some awesome potential there with these. When I heard that there was to be a Welsh mining story in S5 (before I found out it was a Silurian story) I have to admit I was slightly hoping they might make an appearance.

The good thing about that would be that we don't know so much about them that their return would seem squashed in, because it would be easy to write a story around them. Would I want to see them again though? I'm not so sure. I don't think NuWho could really get away with them for starters, but I also forbid the return of any classic villain until we have had Zygons. There has to be an orderly queue after all

I don't think there is any particular need for them to come back again. It would be awesome to see about 95% of the classic monsters again, but I think sometimes we have had a monster return for the sake of it regardless of whether the story actually benefits from it, which is something the show needs to be careful of doing. The Macra in series 3 is a prime example. Totally wasted. If the story justifies it then I would be happy to see most again, just as long as it's not overdone. One every season or two is enough I think. And besides, like Saber says, The Zygons are the most important. Well, them and the Ice Warriors

They were sort of cool, sort of cheesy, but I can't think of a good reason to bring them back. They aren't exactly 'iconic', are they?

I love them, but I think they're a one-off enemy - they were created by a particular situation, and there's no reason to assume they would be again. And certainly the Zygons, Ice-Warriors and Yeti would be ahead of them in the queue.

They always make me think of mini versions of that thing from Tremors.

I haven't seen that film for years!!! I don't think there would be much of call to have them return, but they were good in this story and they become well known and well remembered in their own right, which is more than can be said for many other one of monsters.

I remember a long while back having a conversation about the maggots in this story. I hadn't seen it at this point so my input was minimal, but I remember people saying how naff they were and that they were only memorable for being so naff, but when I watched I thought they were great. The green screen stuff with real maggots left a lot to be desired but I thought the giant maggots were effective and worked well. I'm not sure we need to see their return but in this story I thought they worked really well.
