Its sort of amazing, and quite a bit shocking, that with so many of the Second Doctor stories missing or incomplete, that all ten episodes of this story should be left intact and available. Not that I am complaining of course, but 62 of PT's episodes are gone, and still none of the ten that make up this story are missing. That's quite something, don't you think?

I'll take anything that survives, but yes, it's fantastic this one's all here. Maybe it was shown a lot abroad - that's usually the reason they survive.

It's just a shame DMP didn't share the same luck, really.

Yes, when I try to think which ones I'd particularly wish had survived, I find the list getting longer and longer, till it includes pretty much everything. I think, though, my top choices would be Marco Polo, Daleks Master Plan, Evil of the Daleks, the two Yeti stories, and Fury from the Deep. Then again...

Did this actually survive the junking though? What I mean is, from what I have read, some stories were kept in the BBC archives while others around it were recorded over or just binned, but other stories survived because, as Nyki says, they were sold abroad and then found years later. Did they purposely keep this one or did it have to be found?

According to Wikipedia, the BBC only kept episodes 2, 5, 8 and 9. Episodes 1, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 10 (along with the episodes already held) were later found in the National Film and Television archive and so they were able to complete the serial.

That's so random though. Why junk just bits and pieces of a story? Why not the whole thing? Or even better, keep it?
