I like Steven. I think he came along at just the right time in the show. Ian was on his way out and they needed the strong male character to do the things the Doctor couldn't, but at the same time I think he filled a space left by Barbara as well in that like her, he wasn't afraid to speak up and tell the Doctor he was in the wrong about something. He isn't the most memorable of companions. The guys rarely are, but I do think he was a good addition to the TARDIS, even if this wasn't one of his strongest stories.
