For this weeks Infinite Quest story we return to the New Series with the Ninth Doctor Adventure The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances Chasing a metallic object through the vortex, the Ninth Doctor and Rose arrive in London during the Blitz. There, they find homeless children being terrorised, dead bodies with unexplained marks on their hands, a strange cylinder guarded by the army, and the dashing Captain Jack Harkness.
The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances were the ninth and tenth episodes of first series of the revived series of Doctor Who. The story was writer Steven Moffat's first official televised writing for Doctor Who and it won him a Hugo Award in 2005. Furthermore, it introduced Captain Jack Harkness into the Doctor Who universe. The next story will be posted on Sunday January 15th

Rewatch done and I am giving it a four. I like this story quite a bit and i definately think it is one of the strongest of the first season, but on the other hand I do think it is a little overrated amongst fandom. It was a good introduction for Jack though and the gas mask kid is proper creepy. It's not one I watch often unless I am doing a whole series rewatch, but I do enjoy it each time.

In my very humble opinion, what we have here is quite simply, one of the greatest Doctor Who stories ever written. It had iconic moments (Gas Mask kiddies asking "Are you my mummy"), a sizzling dialogue, a genuinely sinister feel which gave way to the most uplifting ending of any story either classic or Nu-Who. More than any other story of Nu-Who (Human Nature/Family of Blood excepted) this captured the essence of the old show and added the verve and budget of the new.
Pretty close to perfection for me.

Easily two of the better episodes of S1, and quite scary. An easy 5/5 from me.

I've gone with 5/5. This is one of my favourite stories from the first season and Eccleston is completely brilliant throughout. It had everything that the show should be about. Alien tech, time travel, terrifying 'baddies', drama, comedy... Everything about it, with the exception of Rose' shirt, was spot on.

I gave it a five, as I knew I would. It's got all the class and spookiness of the Hinchcliffe/Holmes era, but with a thoroughly up-to-date tone. I'd struggle to find anything in it to criticise.

4/5 from me. For the most part I think the story is awesome, but there are a few bits I am not so keen on. Thecliffhanger resolution for example makes me cringe every time. It works, I suppose, but as the resolution to the previous episodes quite awesome cliffhanger it was a little lame.

I have gone with a four. A nice creepy story with a good setting. My favourite scene is one of the lighter ones where Jack and Rose are dancing to Glenn Miller on top of the ship near Big Ben. I don't know what it is about that scene but I really love it. I'm not keen on the resolution to the cliffhanger and I think that the stuff with the nonogene thingies was a bit silly. They are supposed to be really highly intelligent but despite the fact that there were millions of humans around they still thought that the one gas masked child they came across was 'right', while everyone else was 'wrong'. It's not a huge deal though, I guess.

This week I am awarding full marks. This story works on so many levels and for me, was the first story of the revival to really capture that classic Doctor Who feel. Definately one of the better stories of the first series.

I've gone with a three. I do like this story and I think that it is at times creepy, but for me it just doesn't stand out as 'great'. It's not one I ever eagerly seek out to watch and when I do watch it's never one that I sit and think 'that was excellent'. It's not that I think it's bad. Far from it. I just think it's overrated.

Five out of five! Most definitely the classic of the season and a triumph in just about every way. The Doctor, Rose and Nancy were wonderfully played and acted, as was... well, everyone. The story and script are works of sheer genius and the "Go to your room!" scene is quite possibly my favorite scene in all 51 Years of Doctor Who. The setting is great and the gas-masked kid is creepy beyond imagination. Only the talk about dancing (a.k.a. sex) doesn't work but that doesn't mean it isn't 5/5 worthy.
