30th August - Hey Jude by the Beatles released.  It was the first release on their own Apple label, and was at the time the longest song ever to top the charts (7 mins 11)

Not sure if I've heard the original, though I suspect I have, but it was covered by Billy Idol in the 80s & I know I've heard that version!  Smiley

I think it's one of those songs you don't realise you know until you hear it. And in case you fancy a listen...

I've never been a fan of the Beatles and I've never understood the fuss of it all. Of their entire collection I can only think of 2 songs that I like, one of them being Hey Jude

September 7th - Led Zeppelin perform for the very first time.

Rosemary's Baby was number one at the UK box office. Hang 'Em High was number one in the US.

I've seen neither, but have only heard of the former.

Well, everyone has their own tastes, but I suspect the inability to understand their popularity might have something to do with the amount they've been imitated ever since.  It must be difficult to appreciate just how fresh and innovative they were at the time.
