SFX have announced (they are quoting a source that claims to be quoting the latest DWM so can anyone confirm?) that Toby Whithouse's ep is set in the Wild West & that Farscape star Ben Browder will appear in it. Here's their story: The Farscape actor will appear in a Wild West episode written by Toby Whithouse
Space cowboy? Usually we’d add series news of Doctor Who series 7 guest stars to our ever expanding Doctor Who series 7 accumulator, but today’s news is so exciting we felt only its own story could do it justice.
According to this month’s Doctor Who Magazine (via Doctorwhotv.co.uk) Farscape’s John Crichton, Ben Browder will appear in the third episode of the series. An episode written by Toby Whithouse and set in the Wild West! Too. Much. Excitement.
The issue also, allegedly (we say allegedly because we haven’t clapped eyes on it personally yet, so take this as, say 62.5% confirmed until we do) says that Saul Metzstein (Micro Men, Upstairs Downstairs) will be directing the episode, that episode two has been written by Chris Chibnall and that the second block of filming will cover two episodes written by Steven Moffat and directed by Nick Hurran.SFXposted by PRG 07/03/2012

Here's The Sun's story on the Wild West ep & it seems to confirm PP's theory of them filming in Almeria (I know it isn't 100% reliable, but you never know). There is something new in here that I'm going to spoiler tag, just in case people don't want to know, as it possibly gives away something about the plot. DOCTOR Who does battle with some gun-toting varmints in a Wild West episode filmed on location in Spain.
Time Lord actor Matt Smith and Karen Gillan who plays his companion Amy Pond, travelled to the southern Spanish town of Almeria to shoot scenes on its famous desert lots, which were home to spaghetti westerns The Magnificent Seven and A Fi****l Of Dollars.
The episode will feature a half-human half-robot Terminator-style beast which patrols a Victorian-era western town.
It will also guest star Adrian Scarborough — currently appearing as Pritchard the butler in BBC1's Upstairs Downstairs.
The gunslinging antics will air as the third episode of the new series of the hit sci-fi drama, which returns to BBC1 later this year.
Bosses chose the famous Almeria sets because of the pre-constructed street of western-style houses and saloons.
More than 100 films have been shot on its two film sets in the bleak Almeria desert landscape of Tabernas, including The Good, The Bad And The Ugly.
It is now open as a theme park, where visitors can watch mock bank hold-ups and shoot-outs.
A BBC spokesman said it was more cost-efficient to film in Spain than recreate the set in the UK, while the weather conditions will also prove sunnier than Cardiff, where Doctor Who is usually shot.
An insider said: "Matt and Karen are really excited about the episode.
"Filming on the same set as a lot of western films, together with the Spanish weather, will give it an epic feel."
The rootin' tootin' adventure for Matt Smith won't be the Doctor's first Wild West adventure though.
The first Doctor, played by William Hartnell, had a run-in with some gunslingers in a 1966 serial, when he and two companions got mixed up in the original gunfight at the OK Corral.Sourceposted by PRG 08/03/2012

The announcement has been made, but rather than putting it in here I've given it it's own thread. Other things that BBCDoctorWho tweeted from the press conference are: - Steven "Amy & Rory will leave in a final encounter with the Weeping Angels in ep 5. Not everyone gets out alive and I mean it this time"- There will be 6 episodes this year, including the Xmas Special. Then 8 next year. New companion will first be seen at Xmas.SFX also had these bits of info (although no one else seems to be mentioning them, so maybe treat them with a pinch of salt!): - After the initial eight episodes in 2013, there will be more later in the year – exactly how many is still under wraps. Matt Smith is contracted for all the 2013 episodes.- The departure of Amy and Rory “doesn’t necessarily” mean that River is waving goodbye.posted by PRG 21/03/2012

A number of potentially spoliery things from the Convention coming through via Twitter.
1. The trailer for season 7 will be released at 9am on Monday (via Caroline Skinner Twitter)
2. @DoctorWhoNews Tweeted: Executive producer confirms Amy and Rory's departure will be filmed in New York and will feature the Weeping Angels

Blogtor Who today seems to confirm/clarify a number of things about the running/scheduling of series 7.
He states that the Daleks are in Episode 1 (as reported by Twisted Sister) and not 2 or 3 as I speculated. He also says that the plan amongst the production team is to run the series straight through from the end of 2012 with it finishing in the spring of 2013, with the Xmas special as story 6.
Blogtor Who has good connections with members of the production team and it is unlikely this is too far off the truth.
Interestingly enough he also says that Caroline Skinner has not ruled out a 3D episode of Doctor Who at some time in the future.
