As decided a few weeks ago, NuWho stories will no be shown in pairs. The first of this weeks stories is Gridlock. The second, The Beast Below, can be found HERE. The Doctor takes Martha to New Earth, in the far future, only to find that an entire city has become a deadly trap.
Gridlock was the third episode of the third series of the revived series of Doctor Who. It marked the death of the Face of Boe and his final words to the Tenth Doctor and notably featured the first televised re-appearance of the Macra since 1967's The Macra Terror. It also saw the Doctor and Martha Jones separated for most of the story. The next story will be posted on Sunday 19th February

I've given this story full marks. I really love Martha and even Ten in this. I like the ending especially. The stuff with Boe was really good and the links back to New Earth as well. It's really quite a plain story really, but I just enjoy it so much every time I watch it.

I've gone with a 4. I like this story a lot but it feels a bit padded out in the middle with all the running around to try and make up the minutes. Thats the only complaint though.

I've gone with a 4. I can't really think of a good reason to mark it down, but I just didn't feel right giving it full marks. Its a good story overall and I enjoy it a lot but it has some heavy competition in Series 3 that I think are more deserving of full marks.

I thought this was quite a weak story, although the Boe bit at the end was a redeeming feature.

I was going to give it 4, on the grounds of weak Macra use, but I decided at the last minute that's not worth taking a point off, and I went with 5.

I don't get it. Everybody seems to love Gridlock and dislike The Beast Below whereas I had them precisely the other way around! But then I hated Dalek as well. No accounting, I s'pose.

I thought this was a lovely little romp - and exactly the kind of story that RTD/DT did perfectly. It had some endearing alien creatures and apparently genuine peril for the companion. The twist at the end was nice. In fact the whole thing was a really good story. Even the misuse of Macra didn't jar too much (I am thinking of trying to get a law passed "The Misuse of Macra Act 2012 which prohibits the wasteful use of classic monsters in Nu-Who)
Somewhat surprisingly then, I gave this a four - for whatever reason (and this is purely personal taste) it just didn't excite me. I liked it, have no real grounds for marking it down but it would never be one I would immediately reach for in my DVD collection. If it is repeating on BBC3 or Watch then i'll happily sit through it and feel very rewarded but it just doesn't make my socks roll up and down.
But a lovely little episode nonetheless.

I've gone with a 5. I thought this was a really strong story and everyone put in a great performance. I loved the stuff with Boe, particularly. There were moments where is was a bit weaker but on the whole it's a good solid story.

Four from me. Good story with lots of nice bits but it isn't one I reach for when I'm after a quick fix.

4 from me, there are some really lovely parts in the story, especially at the end when the Doctor is telling Martha about Gallifrey, but I still find myself getting a little bored in places...

I give it a 2. I find it rather boring, plus Martha grates on me so...
But then, I'd probably give all of S3 (apart from Blink) 2 or a 3.

I'd give most of NuWho until Moffatt/Smith took over a 2 or a 3, However, I liked Martha! Then again, I go for black women

5/5 from me. I really don't know what it is about this story that I love so much, I just do. Its plain and not as action filled as most, but everything about it just works for me.

Another 4 from me. Strong story, especially the last 15 or so minutes. Shame that the Macra were usd so poorly though, which is why I marked it down.
