I remember watching this for the first time and being so certain that the reappearance of Magpie Electricals was leading to something huge and was put there as a hint to something to come. I held on to that for ages but it was just pointless. Was I alone for that one?

I don't know - sometimes the point of the connection can just be that it's there.  Though it does raise the question of how Magpie Electricals could have survived the death of its owner in 1953, let alone still being around in the 29th century.

That would have been my thought too. He didn't seem to be a family man with dependents or anyone to take over the business, so to still be in business centuries later, with the same logo no less, was a bit odd. I never thought it would lead to anything in particular though. I just thought it was a neat little nod.

I think it was just a cool bit of cross referencing. It was pointless and didn't mean anything, but it looked good and was fun for a keen eye to spot, without standing out to those who would know no better about it. I can't say I remember ever thinking it would lead to anything more though.

It was probably added for Mark Gatiss' benefit. Either by request or because Moff felt like being super nice to him.

That was my first thought, too. Though lord knows why they would. Probably just a nice and innocent in-reference.

I think that if it had been intended to mean anything then it would have been noticed by the Doctor. Amy was the one who saw it but there is no reason it would mean anything to her. It was just a sign for a bit of continuity. A very oddly placed one.
