Perpugilliam Brown, known simply as Peri, was an American college student turned companion of the Doctor during his fifth and sixth incarnations.

Peri studied botany and also had an interest in archaeology, fueled by her parents' own passion for the subject. Circa 1984, she encountered the Doctor and Turlough on Lanzarote. The shape-shifting android Kamelion, controlled by the Master at the time, assumed the form of Peri's step-father, Professor Howard Foster, and later that of the Master himself, before seizing control of the TARDIS to take her to the planet Sarn to meet the real Master. After the destruction of Kamelion and the defeat of the Master, Turlough decided to return to his homeworld, Trion, and Peri joined the Doctor on his travels.

After contracting spectrox toxaemia, and then getting accidentally involved in local politics on the twin planets of Androzani Major and Minor, Peri first got abducted by Sharaz Jek, and, upon her escape, began to die from the disease. The Doctor saved her but, not having enough bat's milk (which acted as an antidote) to save himself, regenerated into a very different new and unstable persona. At the peak of his madness, the Doctor attempted to throttle Peri to death - Peri is the only companion known to have suffered a physical assault at the hands of the Doctor. Still, he managed to regain his wits enough that Peri accepted the change enough to continue to travel with him together. Perhaps due to the assault, Peri continued to appear ill at ease with the Doctor from time to time although their relationship became more comfortable as time went on.

In the year 2379, on the planet Thoros Beta, home of the despotic capitalists known as the Mentors, Peri was separated from the Doctor. She met the warrior king Yrcanos from the primitive planet Krontep, who took a liking to her. Kiv, a Mentor, had Peri abducted and taken to his laboratory. The Doctor and the TARDIS were removed from Thoros Beta thanks to the telepathic summons to the Space Station Zenobia, the High Council of Time Lords, so that he could not interfere. As the Doctor watched from Zenobia, Kiv transplanted his consciousness into Peri's body, whereupon Yrcanos burst in and destroyed her body as a form of mercy-killing. Despite the Doctor's horror at learning this, the destruction of Peri's mind and her death had never actually happened. After the defeat of the Valeyard, The Inquisitor revealed that Peri and Yrcanos fell in love and she decided to spend the rest of her life with him.

I thought Peri was good in this. She didn't really do anything to stand out, but she wasn't annoying either. I think it's the accent, but I often find Peri to be a little whiny, but it was reigned in here for the most part.

I always like Peri. I think she and the Doctor bicker too much though. Sometimes it works, mostly it's annoying. I do really enjoy their pairing though and I think she was a strong companion, even if not to everyones tastes.

I do actually like Peri, but this story wasn't a great one for her. It's not so much that she did anything wrong, but she was at times sort of overlooked in favour of some of the other characters. The stuff that was focussed on her was decent enough though and despite the inconsistent accent, Nicola Bryant always played her well enough.

I always think Peri is awesome. She has been my favourite since I was a wee girl and even though I am not the biggest fan of this story, I still think she was great in it.

I'm not Peri's biggest fan. I think she was a good companion and she had more of a central role than many other companions, but she didn't do a lot to stand out to me. She didn't do anything to annoy me either, though. There's nothing wrong with her but she wouldn't spring to mind when thinking of my favourite companions.

I do find Peri a little annoying in some stories, though there are others where she's excellent (especially The Two Doctors and her two stories in Trial of a Time Lord).  I'd say it's more down to the writing than her performance.  This one was OK.

I think Peri is great. I don't know what it is, but I just really like her. She isn't my favourite companion but she would be high on the list.

I think Peri is exactly the type of companion that Six needed. She pandered to his often oversized ego but stood up to him when he needed it, too. On top of that though they had a great chemistry. Perhaps it is because I am so used to them but I can't imagine many other companions working so well with him.

I'd agree with this. Peri and Six were one of the strongest pairings in a while I think. Five had loads of companions but for me he never really felt engaged with any of them and Four nearly matched his SJ relationship when Romana came along but I think thats more to do with what was happening off screen than because the writing made their relationship better. Six and Peri though were great together.
