This was something I was thinking about after rewatching The Keys of Marinus. If you could pick one classic story to be remade (with the same cast - this is purely theoretical) with all the technical ability of NuWho, which story would you pick?
Unsurprisingly, my choice would be The Keys of Marinus. It was an incredibly ambitious story for the time, attempting to show an entire planet, rather than just the little bit near where the TARDIS materialised, and that ambition means it suffers more than most from being set-bound. It's a great story as it is, and they do make a virtue of some parts having to be so claustrophobic, but I'd love to see the two alien cities, instead of a few rooms and corridors, and get the full effect of the snow-covered mountains with wolves in pursuit. And really see that vast temple-thing in full.

For me, it would have to be The Daleks. I would love to see what the Mill etc made of Skaro and that shot where the Doctor looks through the binoculars at the Dalek city on Skaro. I have CGI'd that in my head many times, but I would love to see it in HD

A fair point - would still like to see the scope and scale of the Daleks first story increased

I will say, the OP has really got me thinking - because there are some shows (like Underworld, the Tom Baker story) that would have been transformed.
I also think the Louis Marks story Planet of the Giants would most definitely benefit from the better production values offered by the Mill.

Not to mention Invasion of the Dinosaurs, of course.

If Invasion of the Dinosaurs had the full resources of the Mill thrown at it, I have no doubt it would be punching up alongside Genesis of the Daleks amongst the all time greats. Its probably best to leave Warriors of the Deep well alone isn't it?

I think I am at peace with the production values of the classics. In a way it adds a funny sort of charm to the stories. The only remakes I would want to see are either lost stories or stories that were confined to studio space but deserved big sweeping landscapes, like Marco Polo

Which is both, of course In general, I agree, and I certainly wouldn't want to see any of the classics replaced (and I very rarely watch with the replacement CGI turned on). There's just one or two cases where it would be interesting to see what's made of them now, mainly for the "big sweeping landscape" reasons - that was basically what I was talking about with The Keys of Marinus.

It would be cool to see Underworld made on a budget of more than 15 quid.

This is very true! I love that story but it looks bloody awful. Marinus is another story that would be brilliant. Or The Romans. They could use the same sets they did for Fires Of Pompeii and it would look stunning.

Despite not being a popular story I think I would go with The Web Planet. I think half of the problem with that is that it looks so poorly made. The story really isn't bad, it just looks it. And the noises are frustrating too. With an overhaul I think it's popularity could really grow.

I agree. I saw The Web Planet as a kid when it was originally on and it blew me away - it was actually one of the stories that stuck most clearly in my memory from that period. It does suffer now from the limited effects quality when it was possibly the most amibitious story up to that point, but I think it's a fine story.

I did a rewatch of it a few days ago and it was so much harder to get through than I normal. It's just too long. It starts off well but then it just gets worse and worse.
