The 14th season of Doctor Who began on 4 September 1976 with The Masque of Mandragora, and ended with The Talons of Weng-Chiang in April 1977. This season saw the departure of Sarah Jane Smith from the TARDIS, the first companion-less story (discounting MTTU) and the introduction of Leela played by Louise Jameson. Which is your favourite?

I could pretty much close my eyes and point to one and be happy with the answer. Robots is probably the weakest, but I still like that one a lot. My vote though went to Talons. IMO one of the best Fourth Doctor stories.

Not a weak story in the whole series. Actually, not even an OK one. I voted for Talons, though, one of my favourite stories.

I've not seen them all, but of the ones I have seen I went with The Hand Of Fear.

Wow! Again, not a bad (or even moderate) story, or even episode. Every one of these is a scorcher. My favourite (simply because it is the first Who episode I remember watching as a young fellow) is Robots of Death - I was genuinely scared by SV7 and that's the type of lasting effect that no other show has had on me! Also, what a supporting cast - how amazing was Russell Hunter?
That said Talons, Hand of Fear, Deadly Assassin, Masque and Face of Evil. This is Who of the very highest quality.

I sat staring at the poll for ages. This was a really tough one to call. I was tempted to go away and come back to it but I knew I'd just forget so based purely on which one I would put on now if I were to choose, I went with Talons

I've gone with Masque. Didn't realise what a great season this was until I saw them all grouped together like that.

Only just started on this season, but was disappointed by The Masque of Mandragora. The Doctor was written as engaging in all kinds of physical action (a la the Third Doctor) and this has never worked for me. And I still don't know what really happened in the end. Whatever it was, one might have hoped he would have done it before the Brethren killed a few revellers. It seems like the Doctor just allowed that to happen
