I love that they opened in B&W. A great touch to the story I thought. What would have been awesome though is if they reverted to the Second Doctor credits, or mixed them up a bit, to open the show. Just a thought I've had since first watching.

Ah that would have actually been pretty cool. Even if only for episode one. I wonder if they even thought of it. Or maybe it was a cost thing.

I'm sure it's something they would have thought about. Making it happen would have probably been costly though. I remember RTD saying in an interview before that one of the most expensive things you can do in an episode is mess with the credits, so maybe the same rule applied way back when.

I think there is an unwritten convention within the show that the credits reflect the current Doctor. All of the episodes where there is a multi-Doctor element have been careful not to "pull the rug" from the incumbent and I would think this operates under a similar ruling.

I think when RTD was talking about the expense of the credits he was talking about the initial start-up costs of creating a new title sequence (and seeing some of the trouble that the classic series went to in relation to the opening credits - via DVD extras - I can well believe it!) but there might well have been a cost element involved as well (they didn't have the image cleaning up technology that they do now)

I agree with VA. I think it's important that the incumbent Doctor remain the primary focus and keeping his face in the credits is a big part of reminding the viewers that while it's cool to have a Doctor back, they are still just a guest star.

I do agree with the above but I think it would have been cool for just one episode. Or maybe a mix of both. Audio of one and visual of the other, something like that
