I just can't take him seriously, but I don't mind. I think the fact he is so naff makes me enjoy the story more. I can't help but laugh at him, especially when he is trying to be serious or threatening. They should have brought him back Grin

Just as a random side note, I just noticed this is the forums 3000th thread. Pretty awesome!

They did puffed-up civil servants so well at this time.  He was pretty absurd, I agree, but perhaps not that far off the mark.

I think Mr Chinn is excellent. One of my favourite characters in the whole story.

Every time I watch it I'm never sure whether or not I am supposed to take the guy seriously or not. It's either a brilliantly played deadpan performance or a very serious performance that just isn't pulled off very well. And is it the acting or the writing? Either way the whole thing sort of works for me. I think he is great. In a bad sort of good way. Ha

He is also vain, ego-centric and quite mad

I love Chinn - I have said elsewhere that I think Augustus Pond and Mr Chinn should have their own Spin-off series, where they tour time and space trying different cuisine.

That is one of the best ideas for a spinoff I have ever heard Grin Grin

I just find him really annoying. He's the type of character you want to thump. Or at least I do Grin

The thing I found with Chinn was that while he was sort of silly, he struck me as a character that could be a real person, if that makes sense. As though the portrayal was an accurate one.
