Considerable drop there in the ratings considering they were shown a day apart.

Ok, so did any story in the classic series hit over 70? Because I don't think we've seen a single one yet!

Off the top of my head I don't think we have seen any yet, though if we have it wasn't many. The way they scored things in the past was differently to how it is done now so scores for Doctor Who were generally consistent around the 60's though sometimes it fell a lot lower. An episode of the Gunfighters scored 30, for example. We may see scores over 70 but they will be few and far between.

Although the scores are lower they are perhaps a bit more accurate or fair. The shows these days are rated only by the people who have specifically tuned in to watch, so there is a far higher chance of them liking it and rating it highly. It would also explain why series 1 was the lowest rated for AI. People dipping their toe in to try it out.

But as an extension of that, just as Doctor Who is now rated by the people who enjoy it and choose to tune in, so is every show. I think it's fairer than having a group of voters who may not like the show scoring it and perhaps marking it down regardless of quality.

I think there will always be an element of bias in it either way. It's never going to be completely impartial.
