Season 17 of Doctor Who kicked off on September 1st 1979 with Destiny of the Daleks, running through to January 1980 and ending with The Horns of Nimon. A BBC strike meant that the partially filmed sixth serial Shada was never finished and never made it to screen as part of the official canon (which is why I didn't include it here). This season saw the introduction of Romana II as a regular companion as well as the return of Davros and the Daleks. Which is your favourite?

City of Death's the only one in it for me.  Destiny of the Daleks had excellent things but too many flaws, Nightmare of Eden's decent enough, the other two are crap.

City of Death for me. Destiny of the Daleks is a good enough romp - but I think it is let down by cheap production values.

This season represents the single most disappointing season of Who in the 48 year history for me. Douglas Adams was script editor - and if I could have any writer (living or dead) write for Nu-Who it would be DNA. Yet apart from City & Destiny, the rest of the stories are a bit feeble - with the Horns of Nimon in the running for the laziest Who story of all time. This season, Doctor Who reinforced all of the stereotypes that critics of the show had levelled at it. In places it looked cheap, the actors looked like they couldn't be bothered and Tom Baker looked like he was taking the p**s out of the show for much of the time.

But, in spite of these criticisms, how much better would this season have been with Shada on the end of it?

City of Death gets my vote. Not seen them all but of the ones I have seen I only really rated that one

This season was bad. No two ways about it. After the strong couple of years that came before it, the low quality of this was even more noticeable. City Of Death however, which got my vote, was possibly one of Four's best stories, so it had one gem in there at least.

I like Destiny of the Daleks over the City of Death (not by much).  Afro

Destiny of the Daleks got my vote, though really it's only the first two that are worth watching.
