That AI is shocking. It should have been far higher than that. Far, far higher.

I agree, the AI deserves to be much higher than that

The AI is shocking. 83 is an excellent score but when you mark it against other episodes scores then this story deserves much higher.

The rating is really good considering it's time in the season. It usually dips by then. The AI should have been higher though.

To be fair to this story, AIs in the 80s are a relatively new phenomenon. Look back to the AI figures for Remembrance of the Daleks and that got an AI of late 60s/early seventies. Even the industry regards the AI with some suspicion given the way it is calculated.

I think the viewing figures are exactly as I would have predicted - and given the time shift figures that now accompany the shows viewing figures show remarkable consistency throughout the entire 'history' of Nu Who Smiley

There was actually a discussion about the AI ratings and how fair they are in last weeks ratings thread. It's an interesting one. They will never be totally fair but they are scored very differently now to how they were when the classic series was on the air. It would be interesting to see how things matched up now though because they are hard to compare given the different methods of scoring episodes then and now.

I've never seen a classic get over 70. Even the very best stories get abysmal AI scores. It still might not be totally fair the way it's calculated but I think we at least have a better representation of quality these days.
