For this weeks TIQ story we turn to the final story in Doctor Who's original run with the Seventh Doctor story, Survival. The Seventh Doctor brings Ace back to her home town of Perivale. Her old friends are being kidnapped by a race of alien hunters called the Cheetah People, who were shown the way to Earth by the Doctor's old enemy the Master.
Survival was the fourth and final story of Season 26 of Doctor Who and the final story to be aired during the classic series, although it was not the final story produced.
It marks the final televised appearance of Sophie Aldred as Ace. It was also the last time Anthony Ainley appeared as the Master in a regular televised story; he appeared one time in the video game Destiny of the Doctors. Sylvester McCoy would return as the Doctor in the 1996 television film.
It was the last Doctor Who story to be completely broadcast in a videotape format; when the series returned in 2005, it was still shot on videotape, but was processed to give a film-like look, which was not done in 1989.The next story will pe posted on Sunday May 13th.

I've given this a four. I think it was a strong story with a great cast. Ainley was better than he had been for ages, Ace was perhaps at her very best and the Doctor was written really well. I think the biggest let down, and it was enough for me to mark it down, was the cheetah people and the overall design there. They let down what was an otherwise visually great story.

Im giving it a five. There were problems and some parts looked really naff but the story was great and the acting was great. They axed the show right as it was getting good again. Season 26 is great.

"Come on Ace, we've got work to do"
I gave this a four. I thought the story was a rather brave, intelligent tale which sought to deal with addiction, desire, hunting and the futility of violence. Interestingly, while this story had many good parts for Sylvester McCoy (who, by this time, was getting writing that Colin Baker could only have dreamed about) for me the real star of this story was Ace - who was absolutely brilliantly written and realised. It was also nice to have a threat to which even the Time Lords were not immune (agree with Saber, I thought Ainley was absolutely magnificent in this story).
On reflection, the story is a rather melancholic end to the Classic era.But then, how do you write a finale to Classic Who? The great thing about this story is that it sends the show out with a real sense of direction and purpose. I agree with DuckPond, Season 26 was a belter and had some amazing stories that almost served to bridge the gap between Classic and Nu-Who.

This is a great story and it really showed how well the show had started to come together again. It's such a shame that this is when they decided to give it the boot. It had been through a rough few years but the show went out on a high and that's the main thing. I've given it a 4.

I've given it a four, though I might have been tempted with five if the cheetah costumes hadn't been so naff. That just tips it down.

For the same reasons as Nyki, I too have given this a 4.
This was also the first time I've ever watched it. I really liked it though.

I've given it full marks. There were times when it fell down a little, mainly around costumes and makeup, but it was still worthy of a 5 in my eyes.

I'm giving this a 5 as well. Perhaps it was first watch excitement or something but I loved it from start to finish. The best Seventh Doctor story I have seen so far.

This gets a three from me. Some nice ideas and some excellent acting, without question, but for me the story sort of fell down. It wasn't bad as such, I just think it could have been a lot better. The effects were also pretty shocking and the costumes were even worse.
