Was that really needed though? It wasn't as though he couldn't have had his little speech and then returned the following spring or whatever. They didn't seem particularly 'final' to me. Or maybe that was the point?

Isn't everything filmed on videotape? Isn't that what's in film reels? No, film and videotape are two different things. Film is a series of photographs (however-many frames per second) whereas with videotape the information is stored on the tape magnetically or something (not entirely sure how, but there are no photos)
