In the grand scheme of things, this scene made no sense and went nowhere. Why did they bother? Am I alone in thinking it felt really forced and out of place?

I really didn't like it either. I think what it must have been is a clever ploy to get Rory in the show, because people were getting bored with Amy. At least, that's how it seemed to me.

This scene alone nearly made me knock a point off. It was dreadful. It really didn't work for me.

Not sure what I hate more about S5. The Hungry Earth two parter or this scene.

Well said. At the time it felt a bit more acceptable because I kept expecting it to play out in some way later on but that never came and as the season progressed that scene just felt more and more isolated and random. It really was bad.

I agree. If they'd actually done something with it, well and good, but they didn't. I can sort of understand it as post-Angel and pre-wedding nerves, though it still seems a bit random, but there isn't really any point to it.
