Season 21 of Doctor Who began airing on January 5th 1984 with Warriors Of The Deep, running through to March 16th and ending with The Twin Dilemma. This season saw Peter Davisons last regular appearance as the Fifth Doctor, regenerating at the end of The Caves Of Androzani, and the introduction of Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor in the last story of the season, The Twin Dilemma. Janet Fielding and Mark Strickson ended their run as companions Tegan and Turlough in Resurrection of the Daleks and Planet of Fire respectively while Nicola Bryant joined in the latter story as the new companion Peri Brown. Planet of Fire also saw the final appearance of Kamelion.

Some truly excellent stories here but I think Caves will run away with it. It has my vote.

For me, it's a straight fight between Resurrection of the Daleks & Caves of Androzani. I suspect CoA will win easily and be a deserved winner, but I'll vote for Resurrection of the Daleks to balance things a bit.

I very much enjoyed this season. There were some horrific production decisions (this season should not have had The Twin Dilemma in it at all) but what stories there were. Eric Saward really got a handle on the Daleks, Chris Bidmead returned with a brilliant tale about gravitational slugs but, atop the tree is one of the finest Doctor Who stories ever written. I voted for The Caves of Androzani

I nearly went with Planet Of Fire but in the end my vote went to Caves. There are some great stories in here but I agree that TTD should have been left over to the next season. I think it would have had a better reaction if there wasn't 11 months wait between that and the following story.
