For me, this was the biggest letdown of the story. It looked poor and really distracting. It seems Doctor Who always had to have something in there that wasn't quite right. It puts me in mind of the giant rat from Talons, another almost perfect story let down by a very bad giant prop.

I didn't mind the design really, but the way it stood there wiggling its fingers looked a bit absurd.  I agree - this had the magma beast, Talons had the rats, and The Daleks Master Plan had episode 7  Undecided

It looked and acted so daft. It really was the biggest letdown of the story. Effects and costumes on DW are always ropey but they could have tried harder with this.

It was awful but as Nyki touched upon it was more to do with it's movements than anything else. I can take silly looking monsters. They happen all the time. This one just seemed broken.

I just laughed when I saw it! It looked ridiculous and I had no idea what on earth it was doing! Added a bit of humour to the story for me Tongue Smiley

I agree with the OP, this was the one thing that pulled down the story a bit. Bad monsters are nothing new to the show but without this, or at least with a better design, this story would have been 100%

I don't think the problem here was how it looked. It didn't look great but it didn't look worse than many other monsters we saw. It just came off as really pathetic an unintimidating. Is that a word? You get the point.
