Polly Wright was a companion to the first and second incarnations of the Doctor. Polly teased and bantered with those she cared for. She hid her affections, particularly for Ben, behind this façade. She chatted him up when they met and she was still chatting him up when they left the TARDIS. When her friends were in trouble, Polly was completely serious - particularly if Ben was in trouble. Polly would drop the banter and flippancy to work towards practical solutions. Like others to travel in the TARDIS, she hoped to find her way back to her own time period. She said, "Please let it be Chelsea, 1966," when guessing what would be outside the TARDIS doors after it landed in Atlantis. On the first landing in mid-1960s London, Polly left the Doctor with Ben, just as Barbara had left with Ian. Although Polly enjoyed her adventures, she couldn't hide her desire to return home. After an adventure with the alien Chameleons in 1966, the travellers found the TARDIS had returned to London on the day they had departed. With Ben, Polly left the TARDIS and returned to her life, appearing never to have been missing.

I like Polly. She was so radically different from Dodo (who I also like, btw). It's just a shame that so much of her stuff on the show is missing.

Maybe during the time she was 'hip', but when I have seen episodes with her in she hasn't seemed particularly swinging. Perhaps I have a too 'Austin Powers' view of swinging Britain, but she didn't seem ovely 'cool' in that sense. I do like her a lot though.

What? You mean that wasn't a documentary?

Polly was great and it is a shame so much of her stuff is lost because we really haven't been left with the best of it.

You have to remember though that was going on out in the streets isn't what the BBC could put into a teatime family show. I think she was probably very much of the time, but a watered down version. From what I know of Anneke Wills, she was very much the real deal when it came to the swinging sixties.

Polly was a nicely different tack in female companions, but from what I recall (and the little I've been able to watch since) they never really used her to full potential.

Polly is one of the very, very few companions that I would love to know what happened next. I know there was a mention in SJA but I imagine it would have been something awesome and exciting. She was a great character.

This is exactly why I would love a 60's companion in NuWho. I think they could do some wonderful things with that type of character these days without having to tame it out too much.

I'm not sure how I feel about Polly to be honest. This is the only full story I have seen of hers along with a few scraps on the lost in time set I got a month or two ago so it's hard to build a picture but of the bits I have seen she comes off a little standoffish. I dunno. I don't dislike her but I don't rate her very highly either. Perhaps I need to listen to some of the audios to get a feel for her more. Recommendations for a story that will win me over to Polly??

I'm sort of with TS. There is something about her that seems a bit uppety and like she wouldn't be very approachable. Again though, like TS I haven't really seen/heard much of her stuff so it's probably an unfair assessment.

Power of the Daleks shows her and Ben off quite nicely I think. You also have the added bonus of the introduction of Troughton.
