Ok, so it looked a bit naff but I think The Wirrn is great all the same. They were quite sinister when you think about it. I think as daft as they look they probably would have terrified me as a kid.

I know they had to cut a lot of scenes featuring them because they were deemed to be too scary which I think says a lot. I think what we are given on TV these days certainly makes them appear a lot less scary but I think what is creepiest about them is their actions and motives.

I agree.  They look a bit naff, but the sinisterness (sinistricity?) is in the way they're written.  The whole idea of them's pretty scary.

I think with an update they could be terrifying to even todays numbed and dumbed out kids. They are quite a grown up species for the show but the fear factor is undercut by how stupid and clumsy they look

Definitely scarier in concept than they are visually but I agree with Ex that given a makeover they could terrify again today

In context with the rest of the classics I don't think they looked too bad. It's easy to mock it these days but when you think of budgets they did the best they could and they weren't made for HD, were they?

I'll tell you what though, I'd rather some rubbish home made looking monster than the expensive but even more shoddy looking CGI aliens like we get these days, like Lazarus

As I said elsewhere they were potentially terrifying, I just think that some of the effect was lost because they didn't look particularly scary.

They looked a bit daft but they were great villains. If we can even really call them that. I think that's what I liked. They were complex and not necessarily bad, but doing what they needed to survive.
