He is also vain, ego-centric and quite mad

I hate to be the one to do this... but I really think there is no chance of him doing it. Today it was announced he will be playing Malekith in Thor 2 (they must have enjoyed his performance as Destro in G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra - apologies, that was needlessly snarky) so he will be tucked up with that for a good while. Additionally, more than any other actor, he seems allergic to fandom and wonder if he really needs the immense hassle that taking part in the 50th anniversary will entail...

That said, like everyone, my fingers are firmly crossed (not just for a 50th story but for a proper 2/3 season return like he talks about - and in TV land, anything is possible)

A prequel, perhaps?  After all, we only saw the last bit of that incarnation.

I'd like to see the regeneration from   Eight to Nine, I think that'd be really great

Wow, that's interesting. I know it's old news now but I've never read that before. Several people who seem in the know about spoilers seem pretty adamant that he is all booked up and ready for the anniversary. I so hope it is true.

There was actually a rumour a couple of weeks back that we would see an 8-9 regeneration in the special, or at some point leading up to it. I don't know where it came from, but I'd love that!

^^ That would be fantastic. It would be nice to know how 8 came to an end.

I've always assumed it was during the Time War.  When the Tenth Doctor compares his double to the Ninth Doctor, he makes some reference to them both being born out of war.  It would be great to know, though.

I agree! And throw in The Time War for good measure!
