Was anyone else really surprised to see Jenna-Louise Coleman appear in this?

I have changed the name of this thread as that would have been a spoiler for anyone who hasn't seen the episode yet!

I did spoiler tag her name as well, but in the thread itself it should be fine so I've undone it again.
I was totally stunned to see her. Was not expecting that!

This was brilliant - what a piece of casting. And how amazing was she? A wonderful little surprise for us all! I loved the way she interacted with the Doctor and I wonder if we have a little insight into Clara's backstory perhaps?

Count me among the stunned - they certainly kept her a well-guarded secret!

Quite surprised. And expecting Moffat to link Oswin to Clara in some fashion. Certainly getting a companion who had become a Dalek should seem to fit with his statement of the companion coming from an unexpected place (clearly not his precise words, but the general idea).
Anyone playing anagrams with the names yet?

It stands to reason. I've never understood that. It sits to reason sounds much more comfortable

I'm really excited about this now, and I can't wait to find out how this actually ties into Clara. I kept thinking through the episode that she looked a bit like JLC, but it didn't occur to me she could be.

Thinking about it, though, JLC's scenes were not only all in the studio, they were all separate from everyone else, apart from her voice. It's even conceivable (though unlikely) that Matt, Karen and Arthur didn't know it was going to be her, so it shouldn't have been difficult to keep it under wraps.

I think it's also the fact that there had been about 4 preview screenings of the episode & no-one had leaked that info. I know Moff asked at all of them that no-one say anything, but it's amazing that not one person did. There's usually some miserable person who decides they want to spoil it for everyone else.

I actually had to remove a post last week that said she was in it and that she was a Dalek, so we didn't totally escape. Tbh I thought it was someone trolling and didn't believe it but I removed it to be on the safe side.
I'm not sure how it will all pan out but I did very much like the character so if they play to that when she is on board full time I imagine she will be pretty popular. A couple of friends who aren't big fans watched and said they liked her a lot.

It was posted while I was on posting so it didn't last more than about 5 minutes. Not sure if anyone else caught it but it was a new poster who never said anything before or since, which is why I thought it was probably just a troll.

Probably was a troll - just happened to be one telling the truth & hoping to spoil it for people. There really is always one isn't there?!

Yea, it would seem so. Just be on the lookout for other episodes and we should be ok, especially now that most people won't have seen them.

Well I had no idea and I loved that. I love spoilers, don't get me wrong, but I do love a surprise. That was a great surprise.
I really hope that this is how Clara will be played. Jenna did an amazing job and Oswin was written so well. I thought the character was absolutely brilliant.

She rocked. Totally rocked. Moff has made her brilliant and seemingly very popular amongst the fans. If 'Clara' ends up being very different there might be a problem.

I was totally gobsmacked. I didn't expect to see her at all. I think I even did a WTF! I have a million questions about it now so I just hope I don't have to wait forever to get them answered.
And the trend for having the actress appear in the show before becoming a companion continues.

I'm glad this didn't get spoiled. I thought it was a neat little twist in the story and really pulled the focus, in a good way, away from the rest of story.
As for her character, I liked her a lot, but in terms of personality I think Moff has a habit of writing women very similarly. It's not so much a criticism as I tend to like these characters, but it would be nice to see something completely different.
