Ok, I'm going to inflict another of my crazy theories on you all now. Well, it's more a train of thought than a theory, but I can't help but think that we are supposed to look into all the lightbulbs in this series so far. Maybe it is something by Moff to throw us off, maybe it means nothing at all and is a big coincidence, or maybe it's a very subtle plot thread that will lead to something.

In Pondlife we saw the Doctor changing the lightbulb on the top of the TARDIS. Then in Asylum the lights around Amy were flickering a lot during her fashion shoot. In Dinosaurs the episode opened with Brian changing a broken lightbulb fixture in the Ponds home and now in this episode they were everywhere. And they were flickering. It's even more odd because they were in a place they shouldn't have been. Yes, I know that Jex said he put them there, but why?

Perhaps it's all nothing, but it seems like something to me.

Two things; First, this is the best title for a topic I have seen in ages Smiley second, yes - you are right, I think the lightbulbs (without explanations) are little breadcrumbs for us. In Asylum, the lightbulbs flickered when the Dalek Clone/Super Robomen appeared. The nano genes, and their effect on the Doctor/ Amy were never adequately explained and there has been a noticeable change in the behaviour patterns of the Doctor and Amy in the last two episodes. I wonder if we are being tee-d up for the departure of Amy & Rory with some form of problem relating to the effect of the nano genes. I also wonder if the last shot of "Power of Three" will be a little blue eye stalk bursting out of Amy's head?

Also, this could be genius on behalf of the Moff. Series 6 had everyone complaining about the depth of backstory. So, in a magician's slight of hand, he boldly proclaims there is no arc and these are totally independent blockbusters. All the while there is a lovely juicy arc for those of us who like such things, hiding in plain sight.

Well played Moff (and PP for spotting it)

Also, in ep 5
the Angels apparantly attempt to turn off all the lights in New York
and seeing as how that's their final episode it may mean something?

I noticed this starting with 'A Town called Mercy' then jumped on here today finding this thread and thought 'YES!'. Also a particular friend of mine posted a facebook status complaining about the lack of a story arc. After referencing this theory the comments then proceeded to fill the page.......

I think this is certainly too much to be random.  Remember also that, at the end of DoaS, Rory's changing the bulb again and concludes it's the fitting.  Or maybe it's Amy interfering with it.

Also, in ep 5
(spoiler removed, as it was showing up in the quote)
and seeing as how that's their final episode it may mean something?

That could be connected, although it would be a natural enough thing to do.

This is something that I noticed each time, but never connected between the episodes to see any sort of pattern in it. Now it's written down it seems so plain and obvious but it really is quite subtle. I like it. I hope it leads to something.

What I also like is that if there is any sort of arc surrounding Amy we know now that we only have a couple episodes to resolve it and so we don't have to wait around for months for answers.

In Asylum, the lightbulbs flickered when the Dalek Clone/Super Robomen appeared.

But it was only around Amy. It could be that that was because she was the only one around a lot of lightbulbs at the time, or perhaps we are to assume that is more in relation to her than anyone else?

I'm inclined to think it's something throwaway as apposed to something big and meaningful. I'd be happy to prove wrong but it just feels far too subtle. If you think of something like Bad Wolf, which was also really subtle but it seeded enough that it was onbiously something. I don't think the majority of people will notice a light bulb connection.

Does this make anyone else want to come up with a "How many Time Lords does it take to change a lightbulb" joke? (I can't think of a good answer) Cool

I love little theories like this. Whether or not it ever comes to anything doesn't really matter, it's just always fun to speculate.

Or... Two. One to hold the lightbulb, one to create a black hole to power it.
