So that's it. Two and a half years and they're finally gone. I spent much of that time waiting for them to bugger off so that we could have someone new on board but now that they are gone I'm pretty sad about it. Companions come and go and it's something I think we are all used to now but it's still always sad. I wasn't sure what I was going to expect from their departure but I wasn't disappointed and more than anything else I'm glad that like so much of their tenure it was character driven. When you think of the Amy that we began with and her treatment of Rory and their marriage throughout, to have her ending be what it was (I'm trying not to spoil) I think really added something to her character and really helped make us feel it that much more. She has grown and she has grown up. For a moment there I thought, despite being 99% sure Rory was going to die, that we might just get a happy ending. I think that's what made it that much harder again. I'm really pleased with it.
Farewell, Ponds.

I would like to add though that although I didn't hate the idea of ever seeing the Ponds again, I don't want to find us in a position like we did with Rose where we had a companion that we could NEVER see ever again, and yet we couldn't get rid of her. Now that they are gone and with that line in place, I don't want them back*. I just think it would ruin their ending like it ruined the impact of Rose'.
*Anything can go for the anniversary. I want it as fanwanky as possible!

I'm always sad to see companions go, even ones I am not overly keen on. I think it's always sad, but it's always exciting too because we always get someone new. I liked their ending a lot though and I hope as Aneurin says, we don't get them popping up all the time now.

I always liked Amy and Rory, even at the beginning, but I agree this should be it (with the same caveat about the anniversary). This was too perfect an ending to spoil.

And, of course, amid all this, Rory died twice more - three times, if you count that he actually did die properly in the end after a full life.

I don't see why everyone says they can't come back - River can surely see them again using her vortex manipulator, and in fact we know she will when she gives Amy her book to publish. If the Doctor can't bring the TARDIS back to 1938 he could always travel with River.

River actually says she'll send the book to Amy, not give it. I don't know if that's significant.

Hmm, knowing Moffat, it probably is. Well, she could vortex in somewhere else (say England!) and take a boat to New York. That would make for a hilarious episode if the Doctor was with her! They'd be ready to kill each other before they were half way there.

I am sad to see Amy leave. Ready for it to happen, but sad nonetheless. She really grew on me.

When Amy was first introduced, I couldn't wait for her to get out. The way she treated Rory just served to make me think this more. But as her character grew, (Especially in this season!) I stopped wishing for her to go, and started enjoying their adventures. I think they've had their fun, and it's well and good that they're moving on, but it still makes me sad to see them go.

If Amy had been for her entire run as brilliant as she was through S6 I think I would have been more than happy to see another season (or at least all of this one) with her in it. Rory I never quite took to. He was a bit naff and moany for my liking. It's sad to see them go, but bring on Oswin/Clara I say!

I'm sad to see them go. They were my first companions and I had nothing to compare them to when I started watching. I liked both and I am sad to see them go but I am very excited to see another companion come in to the show now.
