It is entirely possible that I have become lost and confused in the timey-wimeyness and paradoxal confusion of the episode, but the Doctor said that the Ponds were stuck. He could never go back to New York in 1938 because there was too much 'something' and he could blow New York off the map. Fair play.

So Amy publishes a book to help guide herself and the Doctor through the story and she writes an afterword at the end to say her goodbyes. But.... why not use that opportunity to say 'Hey, Doctor, Me and Rory left New York in 1939 and travelled down to Texas. Come get us there instead. There is no energy stopping the TARDIS getting through so it's all safe. See you in 5.'

Massive plothole? Or am I missing the point?

I never even thought of that. I suppose we could argue that the Ponds didn't either. Or perhaps they decided that staying there was for the best. Or maybe they had to to keep the paradox in place?

I suspect the paradox is more to do with them than with the place.  They'd probably have blown Texas apart too  Cool

River can still get there via vortex manipulator, and she can always bring the Doctor with her!

Maybe it's because the afterwards title read "Amelia's Last Farewell"? If it's her last, and it's set in stone because the Doctor read it, she couldn't really have another.

I assumed Rory and Amy were sent back to that hotel and were prisoners of the Angels until they died. Having created one paradox in one time and place going back again would create another severe enough to blow up New York. Did other people understand it differently?

The building and the Angels have both ceased to exist, because of the original paradox.  Amy's bit in the book suggests they lived a happy life.  I'd agree about the paradox, though.

Well the Doctor went on, several times, about how once something is written and read it becomes fact and fixed. Amy could have written '... and then all the paradox energy disappeared, the Doctor picked us up from outside Woolworths and we all lived happily ever after.'

I like the ending, but scratch a bit and the plot holes in it become a lot more evident.

Actually, it's just occurred to me that's rather similar to The Mind Robber, where doing what's been written about you turns you into fiction.  Not quite the same, but I wouldn't bet against Moff having that in mind.

I think this is one of those things that we just need to take on face value instead of reading too much into it. As Ex said, if you scratch then you can see the plotholes, but if you take it as what it is and accept the ending then it's actually pretty good. I don't see any reason to try and get around it when we know that wasn't the intention for the characters. The plot holes are big, but easy enough to ignore.
