OMG I dont remember the last time I cried that much!

Finally got around to watching the season 2 finale today and it was brilliant. The scene at the end with the Doctor and Rose on different sides of the wall had me bawling, and then the final meeting on the beach... Amazing!

I have to be honest, I have really enjoyed series 2. Not as much as series 1 and I still prefer the Ninth Doctor, but my main concern I suppose you could say, was there seemed to be a total rewrite of Rose, and I didnt really like where their relationship seemed to be headed, but the stories were really enjoyabe and the acting on top form.

Despite the few things I wasnt so keen on, I found myself really enjoying series 2 more than I expected. A few people on here had said it was their least favourite season, so I expected it to be bad, but I think that may be why I enjoyed it.

I wasnt so much a fan of Tooth and Claw or Fear Her, but the other episodes did what they set out to do and although I had ones that I liked less, there werent any episodes that I think I wouldnt watch again. And despite its rep and my hating of Peter Kay, I quite enjoyed Love and Monsters.

But that finale was superb. I dont know how I feel about the Dalek/Cybermen thing. If I am right that is the first time they have met onscreen, yea? The cameos seemed a bit random, like when Peggy Mitchell turned up, but they did make me smile and I have heard they have them in every finale from now on. Actually, come to think of it, I suppose they were in Series 1 as well, just as robots Smiley

Despite my feelings that she has gone a little downhill, I will miss Rose next series. She acted her socks off in the finale and although I cried, I love that the story made me have that reaction to her departure and the fact she was forced to be apart from the Doctor, rather than actually choosing to leave. Totally heartbreaking.

Oh and The Bride? Shocked I thought Catherine Tate wasnt in it until series 4

So this is the end of my Series 2 posts for now. I will be starting on series 3 tomorrow and boring you with more posts Smiley

Oh and as a last word, YVONNE HARTMAN NEEDS TO RETURN, SHARPISH!!!

Series 2, for all its faults, does have a half decent finale I muct admit. How much people will agree with me though is another thing. I personally really dislike the series 3 finale, but a lot of people rank it as their favourite. On the other hand though, you liked Love & Monsters so will probably enjoy the Series 3 finale a whole lot more than I did

I remember watching the series 2 finale and loving it, but every other viewing has never really lived up to the initial watch for me. It is a very good ending to a mediocre series, but the more I watch it the more I pick holes in it. For me I think, the impact of Rose being sucked into oblivion is ruined by what happens in series 4. I wont spoil it for you, but I am sure others here will know what I am referring to

"It's like Stephen Hawking versus The Speaking Clock" - instant win for Mick-Mickedy-Mick-Mick-Mickey!!

I really like the S2 finale. Like Double P says, it was brilliant first time, then lessens on repeat viewings, but it's definitely a good 2 parter.
I still cringe every time they do that awful Ghostbusters gag though - I thought Billie could sing?!  Grin

The music (can't believe I'm saying this about Murray Gold!) for Doomsday was absolutely cracking - especially for that tear jerker of an ending - even if I don't agree with the whole "Doctor in love" malarky.

Look forward to hearing what you think of The Runaway Bride & beyond!

Doomsday (as my username suggests) is all kinds of amazing.  It is just the ultimate episode for me, I could watch it on repeat and never get bored.  The Dalek/Cyberman **** off gives me chills everytime 'You are better in only one respect....you are better at dying' AMAZING!  I always love bitchy Daleks ("Yes, we know who you are" - Harriet Jones...excellent)

The whole Rose's 'death' was perfect, and when the Doctor and Rose stand at the void and Rose burst into tears, it does things to me, the whole notion of knowing that someone is somewhere but you can't get to them or see them, its like every feeling of someone dying or (in a really dramatic way) when you split up with someone and you can't see them and it kills you inside.

Knowing what happens in later seasons, I guess it does make things change a bit when you watch them, but the emotion of the beach and the way it is played is some of the best television I have ever seen.

I love this finale! The Dalek/cyberman fight is brilliant and the emotion in this is top notch. Though I agree with what someone else said about Rose's departure being watered down by what comes later in the series

I dont know what will happen with Rose in the future, but for now I think her ending was amazing. Tragic but brilliant.

Hello, going to resurrect this after just watching Doomsday for the third time. I watched it twice the first week it was on in a desperate attempt to like it, but it's impossible. And on the third time, still awful. What a pathetic excuse for an episode. Every hackneyed RTD trope in the book, nothing new, nothing interesting, corners cut (why were the Daleks and Cybermen fighting with a black backgroud? Why were only daleks seen being sucked into the void? what the hell was the yvonne cyberman all about?), and at many points a direct transplant of Parting of the Ways ("Oh no, he's not doing that to me again", says Rose...). Genesis ark built up as something brilliant, only to be a load of daleks. And then the big one: those four minutes or so when Rose/Doc are opening the void. Literally nothing that happens in that time makes any sense at all. Somehow the anne-droid, I mean yvonne is not a proper cyberman and buys them time. Somehow Rose's switch starts to go offline. Somehow when she puts it back she isn't just sucked straight into the void, despite having to hang on for dear life with the heavy-things. Somehow she puts the lever back, and it is "locked". Nice work not doing that before, Doc. And worst and most ridiculously of all, somehow Pete randomly pops back to their world, doesn't get sucked into the void and is able to take both him and Rose back with just one button (something Mickey literally said was impossible earlier). No explanation, no clue as to how this possibly makes sense. I literally laughed at the sheer stupidity of it the first time I watched, and I doubt RTD was going for that sort of vibe. The emotion of the Doc and Rose's separation is wrecked by the total bewilderment of what just happened. Ten's characterisation is at its very worst for pretty much the entire episode. And then the bride... fair enough they were going for a lead-in ending, but when it's a well-known comedienne popping up with no further context it can only be seen as some sort of crazy joke. Worst series finale by an absolute mile.

The Daleks get sucked into the Void because they have traveled in time and space, that's why the Doctor and Rose have to hold on to those metal thingys.

The reason Rose's Lever goes off line because something hits it when it is being sucked into the void and that's why she had to re-engage it.

Pete is wearing a "button" AND has one in hand for Rose, however I still don't know how they know that she might get sucked into the void, but all I can assume is that since the parallel world is ahead in time they somehow find out.

Yvonne was still having "human" thoughts and that's why she felt the need to protect Torchwood.

I think that is all that you were wondering correct?

I meant why were no cybermen seen being sucked in, a sympton of the huge gaps in the story-telling of the episode. If you have budget constraints you work the story around it, not just cut something out. And even if I buy all that (which would still take a mighty stretch to accept Pete's intervention as even slightly feasible), still doesn't excuse the poor production values, horrid script, boring action etc etc etc. Still can't see anything in Doomsday that was actually well executed.

You know, the first time I watched it, I had never seen Torchwood. I never watched it live, so I mean, both existed, and I was aware of Torchwood. But I watched Who all the way through season 4 before I started Torchwood.

Anyway, I noticed the second time all the Torchwood music in the finale.

The finale itself it was great, although slightly ruined by how much Rose was seen afterward. I didn't mind the mentions, him trying to get over it etc, but she was in several episodes of s4, which diluted it a bit.

Good finale but probably my least favorite one.

Cyberman were sucked in, they just didn't show it...You can see where they are lifted by the void, but they mostly show Daleks.

I agree with the Rose comments. I've said several times on this forum about how in hindsight the ending was ruined by her reappearances and is less enjoyable on rewatxh. It's a good finale but one of my least favourites

Also the reason you see Pete not get sucked in, is because they are showing it in slow motion more-less, in "reality" it's merely less than a second.  It's just the same as when you see Rose struggling to put the lever back online.

Yeah, hmm.. if you want to think that.

Iceman, I too noticed the TW music in Army of Ghosts this time. Interesting as Torchwood the show hadn't started at that point.

Well, it was filming. The first season of Torchwood takes place directly after that episode.

One of my fav finales but the top two for me will forever be S1 and S2.

I still find Rose's "chip" speech in Parting of the Ways to have a greater emotional impact for me than Doomsday. That all being said, the finale reduced me to tears when i first saw it, and I had no idea what i was watching nor was I familiar with the show. It was only the second ep I managed to catch nearly all of in addition to "Love and Monsters" in a DW marathon on the Scifi chan.

I went with a three. I want to love it and there is so much in there that should work, but I like it less and less each time I watch. I would have been happy to keep Cybers and Daleks apart, but I don't completely hate that they didn't. Yvonne was brilliant and the scenes after Rose is sucked into the parrallel universe are great, though they are a bit let down by all the returns she makes.
